NBA playoffs on Amazon prime in violation of antitrust laws

Yet again all of today's NBA games need Amazon prime subscription to view, including the Rockets game. No, getting the free trial version and the cons of using the app make Prime inadequate.

The fragmentation of sports media behind multiple paywalls constitutes artificial scarcity, violating antitrust principles. Amazon Prime requires a separate subscription to watch, limiting competition in the broadcasting market.

Antitrust Exemption (from the 1961 Sports Broadcasting Act) does not cover the migration of games to paid streaming services. The FCC needs to intervene and bring the hammer.

    Thoughts?

My thoughts: If you don’t have Amazon Prime in 2026. You probably live in a cave.

what they need to do is get rid of ESPN

Prime and NBC/Peacock are way better from the broadcast, to the halftime show, to the guys calling the game

Game exclusivity on a single network has been around forever (TNT, ESPN, NBC all had exclusive deals). Amazon Prime is the same model, just a different (or additional) platform.

Interesting. I don't have Prime, I just get it on league pass like every single other game. It's crazy how the overseas clientele get a WAY better experience and value for money deal than the domestic audience.

I think the US NBA consumer is getting ****ed big time. Business model is extremely predatory. Worse than Korean games' pay 2 win structure.

My league pass allows me to watch any game, any time with no restriction. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Tbh I pay for premium so I can do the 4 game split screen when I'm not watching Rockets games. Coming into next season I'ma trial to see whether someone in the US on a VPN can use my extra 2 devices. I'm paying for them anyway, might as well let some ClutchFans use them to get around the bullshit they have to deal with.

you’ll figure it. Works best from PC but works on phone as well. Just close the pop ups. It’s free but has its issues.

but I got prime so all good

Can’t stand the nba and nfl greedy streaming cash-grab. Fan experience has been gradually chipped away at for yrs and now they aren't even trying to hide it anymore. Even if out of town fans are willing to spend the money for league pass, like I have for yrs, u still miss a ton of games because of this greedy streaming nonsense. U shouldn’t need to have an Amazon prime subscription to watch your team in the playoffs…or peacock for that matter. As if the nba owners don’t make enough money, they continue to squeeze the fans. Hate it.

Fortunately for me I'm very wealthy and have basically every channel, but I feel really bady for the folks who don't. It's bullshit that they can't see the game. I'd poor them a Yamazaki if I could reach it from my hottub.

Just be thankful there's a way to watch all the games at home (legally) for a fairly cheap price. I remember the 90s when home playoff games were sold on pay per view due to blackout restrictions. If the game wasn't on NBC and wasn't sold out, the game would be blacked out within a 35 mile radius of downtown Houston. You had to have cable and then pay ~$20 for the pay per view. If that wasn't an option you'd have to either go see the game in person, go to a friend's house or a bar, or settle for listening on the radio. We really do have it good today.

Sweet, I'm not risking it until next season in case it ****s my account for the rest of the playoffs, but hopefully that means I should be able to hook up at least a couple of CF members if they can spoof to appear in the UK. If it ****s it I'll make a new account then, but I've already paid for this **** haha

That's nuts. And $20 then was like... carry the two... over $500 today.
