One of the greatest places ever I bought albums, I bought CDs, I bought clothes, I bought 2 surfboards there... Damn.
I can see both sides of the reasoning some bands/musicians choose to wear costumes. On one hand, they want the focus to be on the music only, not on their lives off stage. You can play a concert for 100,000 people one night and go to the grocery store without getting recognized an hour later. On the other hand, sometimes it has the opposite effect and actually distracts from the music.
I never liked basically any country music, but a few songs absolutely hit if you are drunk enough in the right kind of dive bar late enough at night. You Never Even Call Me By My Name is definitely one of them.
Seems when it comes to popular music these days there's an age cutoff of about 28. If you're older than that, you're never going to be huge unless you have some sort of gimmick or story.
My understanding is they're two really young kids from somewhere in French Canada, and they think the whole concept of rock stars is weird, so they went with the most absurd thing they could think of as a reaction. I think that's what I read.
