Ha, nope. They were in their bus with a guard and a sign saying 'do not enter' and that bus was gone 2 minutes after their last song.
Surprised to hear that coming from essentially a one hit (although a legendary hit) wonder, so I looked them up and it seems like they are keeping the lights on with extensive touring. So it makes sense that they have a bus and security. Still, fan engagement is key, when I saw Filter a couple of years ago at Scout Bar the band at least hung out in front of the bus for a few minutes to say hi.
Headed up to the Ubbi Dubbi EDM festival in Fort Worth on Friday to support a buddy of mine who is playing main stage.
Yeah, I don't think this was a typical tour stop with a crowd full of their hardcore fans. This was an upscale River Oaks Christmas party and I would guess that most of the people there probably never even heard of them. Maybe they heard Mr Brightside coming from their kid's room once or twice. This was probably a quick and easy money-grab for them and they wanted to keep it low-key.
This was a good show. Way oversold. VIP was garbage. The acts were great but I strongly recommend ILLfest or freaky deaky in Austin if you’re going to make a large EDM fest in Texas. Yes I’m still up. Because Fort Worth shuts down at 2am. Zzzzzz
So far this year: The Last Dinner Party (legitimately great band...a complete surprise) Split Enz/ The Streets/ Basement Jaxx/ Leftfield (Christchurch, Electric Avenue festival) Ty Segall Brian Jonestown Massacre The Mountain Goats (what a great surprise for me...I knew them, but I didn't realize they were amazing). Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Conchords fellow who wrote the Muppets soundtrack...he is really, really talented- very much in the Nilsson, 70's Paul Simon vibe...great band, too). Upcoming Another Split Enz show Sparks (I am sooooooo excited for this). The Waterboys Cate Le Bon Stereolab Lily Allen
Great show by Filter and Alter Bridge last night. It was a good sized and lively crowd for a Tuesday night and the bands matched the energy.
Will be going to Bring Me the Horizon on May 7 with my son and also probably to Bonnaroo to see The Strokes, Weird Al, and The Neighbourhood. Might go see the Foo Fighters in August.
Saw Wiz Khalifa at Red Rocks on the 19th. Great show and Snoop came out to do the last few songs with him. Love that you can always get a cool surprise guest at a Red Rocks show Weird Al is playing red rocks later this summer, I’m hoping to go
I went to Alter Bridge and Filter last night as well. Its crazy that I hadn't seen Filter before with all the festivals and concerts by similar bands I have been to over the years.
