Re-tooled? Care for specifics? People out there thinking GM’s are legitimately coaching these guys up? Both players also pre-dated the eventual WS coaching staffs, yet were still having some significant early success. Again, Luhnow gets a f ton of credit for not trading these guys when they were originally thought to have no part of the future success of this team… but I’m not going to just grant credit for them succeeding as players (when all showed enough success in the minors leading up to their callups).
OK, Luhnow was just like Dana Brown/Click/Wade etc... You're ungrateful of the job Luhnow did. The fact that 6 yrs later his team has only missed the playoffs one time and shouldn't have missed then with a competent manager speaks volumes about the job Luhnow did and also volumes about how you view the Stros. I guess some posters prioritize winning more than others.
Trading for Yordan/JV/Cole/Grienke and drafting Correa/LMJ/Bregs, plus signing CFM/Brantley/Yuli etc... could've had a little something to do with the success while Luhnow was running the team.
There is one big reason why that will never happen, Crane’s ego. His ego is also why Click was let go. This is what we have now as a result of his ego. Somewhere along the way he turned into Jerry Jones.
If I remember correctly, the Luhnow era was on the bleeding edge of using metrics, high speed cameras, spin rates, pitch sequencing, etc etc.
You're so jaded to even see what's being discussed. Luhnow was a god here and we'd be in a much better position with him still here. I was one of the original disciples and my only consistent stance now for all of you pining for him is that there was much more going on vs. just the sign stealing that has led to this unofficial "black balling" of him, and we're just going to have to accept the facts (vis-a-vis all the others have been "exonerated" enough to get new jobs, etc.). The point I was making was that even in 2011, before the new regime took over, there were fundamental building blocks already in the system... the 2026 Astros don't have that right now, at least that we know of. 2000 was also a dismal year here that turned out to be more of a "one-off"... but that year did give Berkman more playing time to really blossom into not just an everyday player, but an MVP candidate his rookie year... and they still had the impending arrivals of Oswalt, Wade Miller, etc. This is more a slight on Dana Brown or just their overall developmental system at the current. There's just not a lot of on the cusp talent out there within the system (and unlike the Drayton era, they are still signing their picks and utilizing resources towards player development... its just not bearing anywhere close to what they've had before, even in times where they had less experts at cultivating minor league systems).
See above, wasn't mentioning any of what was to come... just pointing out what was already here before he got here, and it wasn't chump change. Altuve/Springer/Keuchel were as fundamental as anything. And he certainly gets credit for not making those players disposable (as were many of the young talented guys back then... remember the outcry of Jared Cosart?)
They eventually introduced all of that... and none of that's really gone away, but more teams probably utilizing so competitive advantages are mitigated. But to say they were doing that in 2012 when Keuchel was finding his way (after having later success in the minors)? Was Stromm the pitching coach at that time too (I want to say he was closer to 2014-2015). I'd probably consider him to be one of Luhnow's best hire decisions that deserves more mentioning. As was his decision to get rid of Bo Porter when he did (obviously admitting the mistake to target him in the first place).
