Maybe a lazy comparison, he sorta sounds like German BDE, Big Demeco Energy. Easy to see the appeal for the Texans draft room
TE is such a difficult position to get right. Especially when they are called on to block DL-men on pass protection or running plays, meanwhile being able to run clean routes as receivers. Going the unconventional route seems counterintuitive, but at the same time, if the player checks all the boxes for you and the data tells you to draft said player, you have to trust the process. The media draft gurus have their info, but at the same time their job is to build paper champions. If they get it somewhat right, they will never let you forget it; if they get it wrong, they conveniently never bring it up again. This is a sort of litmus test for the Texans draft scout and team; their data says this fella is going to be elite. The rest of the NFL gurus, mind you media mouthpieces say he’s a 4th or 5th round guy. Texans had him high, what’s to say other teams didn’t also have him rated high? You trade back and you lose out on the guy you wanted…. That says you didn’t trust your system!
While it was likely a reach, I kinda like the pick. Great measurables and his blocking gives him a clear developmental path. Year one just have him focus on max protect sets and leak out if his man drops to coverage.
After all the negativity, it would be just great if and when this pick turns out to be worth it. Hope he will replace current TE in 2 years and that he can play this year in 2 TE sets. Or even 3 TE sets. Both Klien and the TE FA are blockers first. I think Klein will surprise a lot of people with his catching ability. I here his 4 drops are not really bad and his low production part of not so good offense/QB.
TBH I have no clue on 99.8% of people drafted but I trust Nick and Demeco, but dam this TE room is crowded. Will Cade and Jordan make it through camp? We just signed the guy from the Saints and now a new draft pick, someone isn't making it
Hey, don't forget Luke... https://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/player/54402/ While he's probably not more than camp competition, he's got about the same size as Klein and comes out of Iowa. He's just not as fast or as athletic as the big German.
Forgot where I saw it, but Cade supposedly has sprained MCL / PCL (what we saw happen in playoffs)... I wouldn't be surprised if he started season on IR
Yeah, that's probably best and the reason we added two TEs. I like Moreau, I think he may surprise us in a good way.
I've been overly critical about this selection, but I'm warming up to the player the more I learn. I do really hope he succeeds, as a fan. I'm not in love with the "hope" side of this at the selection we made, but it does make me feel slightly better to hear them say they were hoping to slide back 10 picks and hope he was still there. Without a trade partner, getting your guy at least explains the perceived value discrepancy. We've been a TE wasteland in drafting for so long, eventually the odds have to favor us. I really hope he's the guy to finally break that streak.
Which unheralded day three prospects should my favorite team be desperate to add? https://www.theringer.com/2026/04/2...yah-love-arvell-reese-david-bailey-ty-simpson
Every offseason I get hyped up about a particular player that I start to believe will turn out to be way better than his draft slot (or NFL output previously). This offseason it's starting to look like Klein is that guy. I'm almost ALWAYS disappointed so I don't know why I get my hopes up. But if we really did find a diamond in the rough TE that can be a top 10 starter for years to come, it will be amazing.
