I think the strat is that u get into the late lotto and then use that pick and a premium asset (or assets) to move up and get your guy; likely outside the top 3. I say be agressive and go get Darius Acuff, the Rockets’ future franchise player.

Dude... they deliberately set out to be bad this season.
If we have their pick, they have incentive to TRY and win. See New Orleans this year. They didn't have their own pick, so lifted themselves out of the morass.

If the Nets didn't have their 26 pick (and don't control 27), there is no known reality where they draft projects and intentionally lose games. Things would have been different. They paid a premium for the chance to tank just once.

Watch them this off-season. They will try and improve since they don't control their 2027 pick.

It only plays into the hands of Presti again who was a master of finding Picks 11-15.......

Getting into the late lotto might be doable... I'm just pretty skeptical any team gives up a top 5 or 6 pick in this draft class... the top is too strong. Maybe you can dream on Indiana or Utah, but I still doubt it.

I expect my GM to get it done. Demand more from our front office ;)

I honestly don’t think it’s impossible. Just depends on the cost we are willing to pay.

Or they could have traded other assets like Porter Jr (or Cam before him) and Claxton for more picks. Because there was no way they were gonna be able to rebuild without the draft. You can rebuild with other team’s picks. They didn’t even really have cap space until recently. Stone got played. He was desperate for Sean Marks to like him because he has no friends.

    You've missed the point.

If we control the 2026 Nets pick, then they don't finish bottom 4. It truly is that simple.

True, but they would have likely ended up as a low lottery team. Altanta ended up as 1 two years ago.

they finish mid to high lotto no matter what. Just my opinion but I don’t see how they had any other pathways to success. You point to the Pels as an example. Brooklyn didn’t have a Zion. They didn’t have a Trey Murphy. They had no options that would get fans into Barclays. They were always gonna have to rebuild. With their picks or other team’s picks. Stone got played.

The Nets didnt have a choice. They were gonna suck. The East was deep this year.

The Rockets got really unlucky with those PHX and Dallas picks.

No one saw PHX winning 45 games this year without KD and Jalen Green only playing a total of 32 games. Dillon Brooks the floor raiser?!

Dallas jumping 11 spots in the lottery wasn't totally unexpected after the Luka trade .... but that's another story, the odds were slim to none and they won the lottery. That was a real gut punch to the Rockets. That 29 Dallas pick was the prime asset, and it went to sh!!t in an instant.

IF the Rockets had kept those Brooklyn picks, they would not have been a 20 win team, they'd have actually tried to win - spent money in FA rather than sitting on it for another year, it's the East - they could have easily gotten to 35 wins if they actually tried, instead of trying to lose for lottery balls.
Their only real salary move was to acquire Porter Jr for a #1 pick for $40m.
The Rockets own the rights to their 27 pick via a swap - Watch how they suddenly improve, having no incentive to suck. They have been either 1 or 2 in cap space available in the last 2 years (didn't use it last year). It wouldn't surprise me if they move Porter Jr to free up more space and are significantly improved.

You look at their roster moves from July 8 last year thru today and it's obvious they aren't trying to win anything.
NBA Transactions. (I'll list all of their transactions in the following post - it doesn't fit here.

Trading 2 picks for 4 was an unquestionable win.

I know I'll never convince you otherwise .... but there's no way Brooklyn was anywhere close to that bad if they don't control those picks.
To be that bad, you have to prioritize losing.

Pretty sure I saw tht and Im still getting **** from people for saying I would rather have DIllion back, plus our pick and whatever we got in a diferent trade for Jalen than KD. We were instantly good as soon as we got Fred and Dillion. We should ahve respected that chemistry.

lived in NYC for many years. Lived in Brooklyn. I still have friends there. I am telling u, the fans wanted a rebuild. Lots of criticism of the current regime for trying to build a super team instead of a sustainable long term winner. There was no way out for the Nets. They didn’t have anyone to make them competitive and couldn’t acquire that level of player. It was either make a deal for their own picks or trade for other team’s picks, including trading those suns picks for nearer term picks. They were making that bridges deal. I’m sorry but this idea that they would try to win just to spite us is not reasonable. And even if they did try to win, they wouldn’t be very successful. And they knew that. Stone got played.

The Rockets didn't have that quality of player .... and they still won 52 games last year.
