It wins regular season games but loses playoff games. It produces fake 1 and 2 seeds. The only team that has ever made this style work was the Detroit Pistons against a Lakers team that hated each other. Current era Pistons. Udoka era Rockets Grit and Grind Grizzlies Budenholzer Hawks Current era Magic This style doesnt work. The last dynasty in the NBA actually came from a..... ....disciple of Mike D'antoni and a successor to the 7 seconds or less Suns. Thats where Kerr learned it from.
True. Once the opponent figures out your limited offense (i.e - double-team kd for a turnover; leave non-shooters like Tony Allen and Amen free, while clogging the paint), it doesn’t matter how many stops you get, as you can’t convert them to extra points. Also - when you’re facing an opponent with elite scorers, you’re doomed. No defender can stop Curry, even at his late 30’s. Current Pistons are even struggling with Bane. No matter how intense the defense is, when the opponent finds the guy with the hot hand, the defense collapses.
You’ve got to get offensive firepower and let Ime teach those players defense. Shooters can shoot. A defensive-minded coach can improve any squad’s defense.
Ime is an assistant coach. Not a head coach. As is JB Bickerstaff. As is Jamal Mosley. As was Monty Williams.
This is a dumb take... Ime with his shortcomings improved our team and made us competitors/contenders. JB Bickerstaff has done well as coach for the Cavs and the Pistons. I would argue the Magic are a bad matchup for the Pistons. Jamal Mosley didn't have his 2 key starters (Wagner and Suggs) for the majority of the season. Now, they're back and could potentially upset the Pistons. Monty Williams - I agree...since the horrific accidental death of his wife his coaching was never the same. Its very rare these days a team will retain their coach if a team is not performing to expectations. It doesn't mean that coach is bad. Changing coaches can be healthy especially if one specific coach is heavy focused on defense then it creates healthy habits/traits for your team. Then, you make a coaching change to a person who is an offensive guru and those defensive traits/habits are still ingrained within the players. We've seen this most recently with the Celtics when they fired Udoka (sex scandal) and hired Mazulla. The Celtics never lost their identity on defense, but became more dynamic on offense...I would only fire Udoka if we're able to get Steve Kerr. I believe he can get us to the next level
The rockets have never ever been close to contenders that is delusional you don’t lose to a 7th seed team if that’s the case
teams like the Pistons, Rockets, and Magic have too many weak or straight up non-shooters which makes you an easy snack in the playoffs Pistons: Ausar and Duren can’t shoot…Ausar is so bad he makes Amen look good…their lottery pick Ron Holland isn’t even playing in this series, he’s gotten just 18 minutes total after averaging 20 mpg during the regular season because he’s a 25% 3 point shooter and the Pistons can’t afford to have him out there Rockets: Sengun and Amen can’t shoot…teams are very comfortable letting guys like Tari, Okogie, and even Jabari shoot…we were struggling to score against a Lakers team that was a bottom 10 defense this season people might say the Lakers are missing 2 bad defenders in Luka and Reaves…ok, but they’re still trotting out Luke Kennard, Rui, Ayton, Laravia, etc…our offense is so bad that even a subpar defensive team can stop it easily
You mean like last game? I agree our offense sucks, but a good coach would’ve figured out that Amen and not Durant should have been initiating the offense all year and by the playoffs our offense would’ve been clicking like it did last game, Durant should have been a spot up shooter and last 5 seconds of shot clock outlet all year.
Your point has some validity, but I think the Grizzlies could have made the Finals at least once if Ja's head was screwed tight and he wasn't a toxic mental case. He killed that franchise.
Ime Udoka is the guy you want at the beginning of a rebuild, setting the tone for your rookie contract guys and the expectation of playing hard and taking the job seriously. He's not your guy when you're aiming for playoff success.
Durant wants to control the game and have the ball in his hands so he can pad his stats. Its loser basketball and he's been doing it his whole career. But he shoots 40/50/90 so everyone glosses over all of the turnovers, defensive lapses and whatever else. If you dont give him the ball then he pouts and plays even less involved.
This is where the current Rockets fail. The defensive schemes allow open shooters AND don’t do enough/anything to mask our weaknesses. The offense NEVER feeds the hot hand, unless it’s KD.
Ime needs to be fired. Hurts to say because I wanted him here. We've seen who he is. He wants win now on a young developing team. He should be coaching the Knicks not the Rockets. We should just switch coaches.
I've been saying that since the last playoffs, history repeats itself again this year for us and the Pistons are the same. While I'm willing to give it another shot next year with a different coach, I don't think we will ever be good in the playoffs unless one of Alpi or Amen learns to shoot or get traded.
I dont think this is true. You just need 3 shooters with them as they are great creators who have no one to pass it to because our coach doesnt like shooters he likes defensive guys.
