If Kerr, Reddick, and Kidd can have success as head coaches, I like my chance with Sam. Sure, he could be Nash, but he has about 2 decades of coaching experience under multiple systems. I like Bullard for the same reasons Drayton like Dierker. He's a great communicator and Elie has the right intensity for the defense. The Hakeem system on offense can work with Sengun.
Sam Cassell is more of a developmental coach. He’s not the X’s and O’s, offensive architect this team needs. I’d go with Micah Nori from Minnesota or James Borrego. some other up and coming studs in coaching circles that I like as well: Amile Jefferson (Celtics) Johnnie Bryant (Cavs) Sean Sweeney (Spurs) TJ Saint (Knicks) unfortunately, I have zero confidence this organization knows these guys even exist, let alone would think out of the box to hire them.
Kerr is a POS but we need a coach that understands movement and deception to get players to their spots effectively. Durant is a finisher not a PG. Likewise for Sengun. TOs created by our stupid coach playing our guys out of position and character. We need someone that knows offense and plays and for that matter can coach up a team by running an effective defense that is flexible and reactive to opposing teams. Someone that actually f**king does their homework. I don't want Kerr for sure but we need someone accomplished out there in Xs and Os. I still think our players have development left in them with the right coach using them effectively. Jabari is not Durant and a more effective use for him is to turn him into Miami Bosh. Sengun was never Magic and wasted an entire year peacocking instead of trying to fit a role. Amen is NOT a PG. Reed is NOT a 6th man. He needs to be a Mark Price type ball handler with CP3s midrange and Cocaine Curry 3 game. He needs to be part of the offense so that he is not just jacking up late clock 3s in sporadic minutes.
I still can't believe he got a six-year extension, but then again, I still can't believe they gave Fred Van Vleet 40 mm a year.
Tilman should innovate. Get rid of the coaches. Use an AI to synthesize CF game thread postings and make second to second coaching decisions throughout the game. That's the way to go.
Fred's contract was defensible at the time because they had to spend a ton of money given how far under the cap they were. And it's not like they had a lot of free agents lining up to sign here after the 3 consecutive tanking years. Now giving Fred a 2-year extension worth 50 mil was inexcusable. I still can't fathom any other team in the league offering him anything close to that amount. It felt like the Rockets were negotiating against themselves because of how much they'd overhyped his importance to the team. Which is the same thing that happened with Ime. There was no reason to extend him like that with 2 years left on his original deal. But for whatever reason, Rockets management thought he was critical to the future of this organization and rushed into locking him up longterm when they could've easily waited one more season. It's not like he could sign elsewhere prior to the 2027 offseason.
The team looked very good during game 4...they looked prepared, but I'm not ready to make the verdict that KD is the problem on offense. The ball moved very well, looked like a well-oiled machine. The series should be tied 2-2, but those are growing pains. Let's see how our team responds game 5 if KD sits out
I kinda agree...our team looked very good game 4 and game 3 except for the final 30 seconds...maybe, KD makes the ball sticky when we run our action. I have to give LeBron his flowers because he's a team player and knows how to make an adjustment for the better of the team...we'll see how the refs officiate game 5 in LA because they definitely helped us in game 4
Crazy how people are still blaming Udoka when this team should have won 2 games if not for 3 terrible plays at the end. But yet fans blamed Udoka. Udoka coached masterfully game 4 swarming lebron, switching everything, and creating more opportunities for Amen and Sheppard yet more negativity and hate. The fact he drew up the first offensive play for Sheppard in game 4, shows he’s a good coach that believes in his players.
25 mil is fair market value for a vet pg. to put things in perspective Giddey is getting 25 mil. Quickley is making 32 mil. Derrick white making 29 mil. Garland 39 mil. You underestimate fred who had a down year but was still effective as a vet leader, floor general, and defender and still made big shots in big moments for us last year.
I get that Ime will be the coach next season. But I don’t understand why Sam Cassel has never had a head coaching gig. Can anyone more knowledgeable than me about the coaching circuit explain this? Sam has been an assistant for well over two decades on some very successful teams. And he was a very smart player.
Ime is not necessarily who I would want for a CEO model coach but I would prefer that with an offensive coordinator to note changes. The “OC” in my mind, really, really needs to happen. I will be very disappointed in the organization if it’s not done. it doesn’t even really mean anything to me in regards to who is on the team player wise. We need the coordinator, no matter what.
