Trump. The great uniter. How is this any worse than bombing the leader of a country and his family. When the leader of a country goes after his foes, it creates a climate where things like this happen.
A few things: I don't buy the false flag/Reichstag/set up conspiracies. Trump is one of the most reviled politicians in our history. it's not surprising that some people want him dead and that a few of them are deranged enough to try to make that happen. The vibe towards him is amplified because of the both sides issue: some on the right think he has betrayed their cause. (I'm not ascribing any motivations to this guy, just pointing out the lay of the land and that we should not be surprised this happened and should not be surprised if this happens again.) This guy never got close. He still had other levels of security to get through plus a whole ballroom filled with a bunch of security personnel. Storming the first level of presidential security with no other plan is, by definition, irrational and delusional. It's kind of amazing he's still alive (another data point against conspiracists). There are a million other ways to try to do an assassination with a greater than zero chance of success whereas this guy's odds were irrefutably zero. Someone who had just watched The Godfather could come up with a better plan. For a vet, JD sure looked like a scared little wimp when they escorted him off the stage. Doughy soy boy vibes there. We'll have to wait and see what this guy's writings really say. I don't trust the administration to provide any information accurately, much less that related to an assassination attempt.
Never, ever, ever went anywhere near actual combat much as they would like to imply otherwise when they go on about his service. Corporal Vance was civil affairs, he basically doing PR for the Marine Corps. That was the closest he's ever been to having someone shoot at him in his life. I've been shot at much more directly than he ever has and I never served a day.
Really… show me the part where mainstream liberal media outlets urge their watchers to resort to violence?? How many of them have said repeatedly that elections are are rigged??? (Which is the single greatest contributor to political movements turning violent across failing democracies). When you tell your people elections don’t matter and how they are rigged, the only obvious conclusion people that follow that leader are left with is violence. So show me again what evidence you have of left leaning mainstream media outlets either urging violence or spreading outrage about elections being rigged so you need to take matters into your own hands. You think you can get away with insinuating democratic voters are somehow just as radical and violent as your side… show me the proof or just continue to wear the badge of a pro authoritarian online activist.
Seeing how excited maga is today here just tells you all you need to know about how these guys actually want this. The more violent and chaotic things seem, the more power they think Daddy Trump can amass. It’s not that complicated and very transparent. I think Democrats in Congress need to fight back on this propaganda pretty hard the next 48 hours. Stress the importance of the next two elections as the more important way we can fix the rot and corruption in DC by reforming our democracy so that people don’t feel the need to resort to violence. The answer here isn’t to just go on CNN and go soft on Trump and self moderate your political messaging. This is the time to go hard on your beliefs in actual Democracy and how strong you feel about rooting out this autocratic reach and corruption. Because we all know that’s where this starts and what has ultimately been responsible for these divisions we have. We created a democracy for a reason folks. It’s there so we don’t have to shoot each other to have a seat at the table.
I’m sure this thread is going to come back and bite these clowns big time in 2029 and 2030. I’m not a huge gambler and don’t know if Kalshi has it or not, but if there is one safe bet for the future it’s that there will almost certainly be right wing political violence in our nations future.
They'll just pretend it didn't happen. They do that already, they retreat to memes and repeating "facts" that are verifiably false. The entire MAGA movement is built around regression and retreat to paracosms when reality is too uncomfortable. You'll never convince MAGA they aren't always the only ones who are victimized. It's emotional coping through fantasy as a political movement. When it happens and you point it out to them they'll all just disappear and then repeat the same emotionally soothing lies at the next available moment. I can't think of too many other political movements that in American history that were built around about maintaining fantasies that make their members feel better about themselves. Maybe my grasp of history is just deficient and this is common throughout the past.
All the ones here will do their thing were they so “oh no I never said I was a Trump supporter, Im just a freedom loving libertarian… how dare you!!”. We all know these guys have their red hats. No shock that pro authoritarians are also cowards.
