Went for a short walk and it came to me why Klein was likely a pick over some of the other TEs. Perhaps the scouts had 5-7 of them closely rated and he is likely a more tenacious blocker, but the trump card is he's German. Cal and his hottie going after those EUROs to pump up their margins--smart from a marketing/PR perspective. Hope it's also good from a football viewpoint.
See, that Frankfurt market, tho [" -- the league viewed Germany as an ideal candidate for expansion of the International Series because of the country's high viewership for NFL games (2.2 million people in Germany watched Super Bowl LV) and the country's numerous modern stadiums. In October 2021, it was confirmed that Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, and Munich had been invited to participate in deeper conversations about hosting NFL games.]
Grade Analysis The most head-scratching pick of the entire draft so far. The Texans not only have a ton of recently drafted tight ends on their roster, but they also have Dalton Schultz and the recently signed Foster Moreau. Klein might be a little intriguing given how new he is to football, but he's a bit too stiff to be called a developmental route-runner. (Mike Renner) Pro Comparison: Jared Wiley Summary Marlin Klein is new to the game of football relative to his peers. He has long arms and body control to make catches outside of his frame, as well as the reaction time to make late adjustments. He has a willing, but unrefined approach to blocking. Klein is best served as depth early in his career with the potential to develop into something more.
agreed. Huge reach. A guy we could have had in the 3rd or 4th round. A lot of reaches after the McDonald pick. I get that we don’t care much about consensus, but I don’t understand why we are leaving so much value on the table by reaching for these kinds of players.
As the draft positions worked out, Texans only had a 4th after this pick and they felt instead of getting someone else, they didn't want to chance not getting this TE. Not 2nd RD worthy, for sure. But after the 1st 2 picks, I will give them a break for this reach. Could be the worst reach in the whole draft, that's life. But if he turns out and can replace current TE in the near future then no one will remember this reach. If the team goes 13 personal a lot, then they will need lots of TE. This one is tall, fast and can block. And perhaps there is a chance, this may still work out in the end. One can only hope.
Man, these type of videos annoys me for some reason. Can a player's partner make me dislike that player more than I should?
You have to try and try til you get it right. How many TE injuries did the Texans have the last 3 years? Just because you have a ton of bodies...doesn't mean you don't keep trying.
