Reed has way more to work on than I'd prefer at this point.

Him and Jalen are really similar actually in a lot of ways. Streaky and slightly one dimensional offensive players with different strengths who give you enough at times to see stardom but **** the bed way more than you'd prefer. Jalen was a better defender though. Maybe Reed will get there. Maybe he wont.

This is very much a Jalen Green vs the Warriors level performance from him. This is a G League Lakers squad. Not the Warriors.

I said he would be Cj Stroud in these playoffs and now here we are about to get swept with our generational shooter going 6-21

Reed Truthers are out here reinventing reality from first principles, have just discovered Quantum Reedchanics

See the appearance of Schrodinger's Reed Sheppard who both gets too much & too little playing time

reinventing what? He’s 21. We wanted him to play because it’s obvious he’s better than anything else we have. Did you watch any one else on our bench last night? I don’t think at 21 he should be plying 45 minutes in a playoff game. I don’t fault him for making that mistake. Coach shouldn’t be giving him the ball. Give it sengun the only one you can trust with the ball, dumb..

No, he's right! Both Jalen and Reed are inconsistent, the only difference is Jalen doesnt get embarrassed on the defensive end.

And because Reed gets embarrassed so frequently on that end of the court, its makes it hard for coaches to play him defensively....YOU CAN NOT HIDE HIM.

At this point, whether we all agree or not, the pick should have been Castle!

I'm not sure if there's a franchise record for "most missed 3 pointers in a 4 game playoff series" or "lowest fg% , 40+ FGA" but he's currently an outrageous 9/30 & 12/45 overall.

That's our shooting specialist! It's actually pretty comical

Reed Sheppard plays like a p***y and has zero NBA level skills outside of spot-up shooting

his garbage defense would have him glued to the bench on many teams that are trying to win…I’ve never seen somebody be out of position defensively as often as he is, and he only plays defense with his hands gambling and reaching 24/7

he’s food on defense…a buffet…teams take turns sending players to go eat because he’s helpless

and he’s nowhere near good enough offensively to compensate

one minute he’s playing too much and is fatigued, and the next minute he’s playing too little and has “lost confidence” or can’t get a rhythm

    the Reed Sheppard paradox

Is it news to you that young players, especially young PG's take a few years to develop fully?

If we were talking about a player with over 10k minutes played, that's one thing. However we're talking about a young PG with one season worth of playing time struggling in his second playoff start.

They act like he’s a little kid playing little dribblers. It’s absurd the excuses people will make.

Not even a role player in my eyes. Kills his dribble every time. Rockets player development is nonexistent

Reed Sheppard so far this series:

45 shot attempts (shooting 27%), and just 2 free throw attempts (one being the technical free throw he missed in OT last night)…so basically, in 92 minutes of game time and 45 shots taken, he’s managed to draw just 1 shooting foul

and he has the ball in his hands for many possessions, it’s not like he’s PJ Tucker

Does that scream good NBA player to you?

He functioned well in the 6th man role. Instant offense sorta thing. The stupid "but look at the record when he starts" tricked a lot of people. He cant be played against NBA caliber starters, he just doesnt have the size and knowledge yet.

Durant/Sengun/Reed is probably the worst defensive trio in the league. Without Amen this is a lottery team.

Will you acknowledge that this is Reeds sophomore year while Jalen’s playoff series with us was his 4th? Important context, imo, if you’re lobbying comparisons.

Not to mention the stark minutes differential in their careers thus far.

Reed has had a poor series thus far, no one will dispute that. He also is one of 3 shooters on this team (though he’s been pretty piss poor this series).

What’s crazy is this isn’t surprising. He’s a sophomore being asked to play the guard position in a dysfunctional ‘offense’ without the 1 cog that’s kept it somewhat afloat this year.

Anyone expecting Reed to blow the doors off the series is being unrealistic. And also, literally NO ONE was saying that. Wanting to play a player that should be in the plans longer term more than Holiday or Tate isn’t unreasonable.

If you put Reed in an empty arena with a basketball and 24 second shot clock, and locked it, he would still be missing most of his 3's but he would exist in our minds as actually making them.

I'm not going to overreact too much to his poor playoff performance. He's a 21-year-old second year player who barely got to play during his rookie season. He will almost certainly get better than he is now.

That said, I've been saying for awhile now that I don't see a path to high-end point guard skills for him, too big of a gap, so to be a starter on a championship team, he needs to either be truly elite as a 3P shooter and/or he needs to improve to a playable / average-ish level at on-ball defense.

And there's almost no chance he becomes anything like a perennial all-star. Never has been.

I think you can still hope on him being a very good roleplayer who gets signed to a Jabari-like contract and is an important piece for us for a long time. But some of the hype from DD and co has been out of hand since the beginning. He's an undersized combo guard / shooting guard from a very weak draft class. He is what he is.

The expectations are *insane* for him lol. Coupled with his minutes being yo-yo’d the weeks leading up to the playoffs, it’s not exactly surprising.

    Call it moving goalposts, whatever.

First off, Reed is not a PG, he's a tweener and I think that's where the problem lies. He flourishes in the G-League and in Su.mer League because his flaws can be hidden, because everything is slowed but as we see in the BA, he is a liability
