If Mike Washington Jr is still on the board I want him. We need more good running backs. Our running game hasn't been great in years. Man down, no problem, is how I feel. Quality depth at that position would be great.
I had noticed this, and was really my only concern at the time, since I love the player and don't mind where we were taking him. But, it seems pretty clear in the aftermath of this, that 2-3 teams were trying to jump us to get him and the Bills leveraged that into a very nice deal for them. We got who we wanted, that is all that should matter long term, 5th round pick be damned. Once Vega was off the board at pick 14, this was the crown jewel of interior OL. When there is a pretty clear delineation of value and positional scarcity, by and large teams are going to eat that up. We saw that with Iheanachor/Miller/Lomu selections, 10 OL in 1st 28 picks.
I don't know how you can claim so without knowing the offers the Bills turned down. The points are an estimated value that does not take into account specific players and slides or position scarcity. Let's say there are only 2 WR with round 1 grade and 5 teams need a top tier wr. You will have more interest trading up to get one of the 2 than if there were 4 or 5 equally valued prospects.
Teams use Draft value charts that assign a specific value to every pick in the draft to assist them in determining draft day values in trades. The original chart was the Jimmy Johnson trade chart which was used for many years before it was updated. The draft value charts are not assigned a value to a particular player, but what the overall pick number is. The 1st overall pick is could be worth 3000 points and the 33rd pick could be worth 580 points. I don't know what the other offers were at the time to the Bills for pick 26 or if they were bluffing, but the value of the picks the Bills received were worth far more than what the Texans received in exchange. The Bills then traded pick 26 to the Patriots and did not receive the premium that the Texans paid them. The Patriots actually received a premium to trade up 3 spots from the Bills. I didn't like the trade because the Texans burned pick 167 that they didn't have to. I like the player the Texans picked. I was high on Rutledge before the draft. To me it seems like the Texans panicked in the moment and the Bills were able to take advantage of the Texans.
• Expect a strong WR run well into the third round. It’s viewed as one of the deeper positions, and there’s still a good chunk of talented players on the board. • Several teams I’ve spoken with are monitoring the #Cardinals as a possible fit for Carson Beck. Arizona is looking to move back, per sources. • There will be a “ton” of DTs off the board in the second round. While the position wasn’t viewed as having a surplus of blue-chip prospects, there are still 4–5 really good ones left who won’t have to wait long Friday night
Rutledge is 22 and will turn 23 in September. We'll have him under contract until 2030 if we exercise the fifth year option.
Maybe already mentioned. If so, sorry. In Lance Z's day 2 updated mock he has us picking: 38 - Christen Miller 59 - Kyle Lewis 91 - Will Kacmarek https://www.nfl.com/news/2026-nfl-d...son-beck-five-teams-take-receivers-in-round-3
So this only means there was a bidding war and Texans overpaid for what they wanted. They went for it. You made not like the "value" of the trades. How many here on the first day of the WAJ trade said it was bad trade? Not saying this guy will be that good. But you never know about this stuff. Didn't some say 50% of 1st RD picks bust out? We can only hope Big Red is not a bust but is a dog and eats the opponents D Line. Making the running game MUCH better (current 29th or something like that) is the name of the game. If this guy is any good, he will be either 1st backup for all 3 interior line or even move to starting center. I here picking center first is "unheard of". Really?
This is the fun part of weaker top end drafts like this one. The value in 2nd/3rd rounds is strong this year, especially at some of the positions we really need to address for depth or potential contract replacements over the next 2 years. This year we have the luxury of going BPA or best fit for the team vs. going too far off the board like we did with Scruggs and even Blake Fisher to address glaring needs that didn't pan out.
Rutledge was picked to play Center for the Texans. This draft lacks gap scheme centers and that's the reason the Texans have been linked to guards that could play center. The actual story will never be shared, but the Titans ended up trading up for Keldric Faulk who was linked as a 3 technique tackle that the Texans were high on. There's an article on Profootballtalk that the Titans were trying to trade in front of the Texans for Rutledge. I'm sure the Texans were concerned about being leap frogged for Rutledge, but more than likely Faulk was the Titans target and has been graded higher than Rutledge throughout the draft process.
I’m really curious where WR Chris Bell goes tonight. He’s a 1st round talent coming off injury. Assuming he doesn’t have a setback, he could be huge value. I would still like a weapon tonight in one of our picks - RB/TE/WR. Any of the positions where we see value. If DT starts a run, don’t get cute. Attack the value and depth of a given position. Antonio Williams is another to keep an eye on. I wouldn’t be so stuck on two defenders tonight
That may be. In fact, no one knows. But whatever the case, this is done. Picks were used. Keldric was pick 31, not 26. If Texans wanted him, they could have had him. They wanted this guy, this Big Red, this mad dog. How many times did the Texans missed the player they want because some team jumped up and grab the player? Happens all the time. This time, they jumped and got who they want. Their draft board. They want to keep improving the OLine. That is priority #1 so they did what they did. I do hope he is indeed worth it.
