Your facts are wrong.

GM and the banks were bailed out under Bush during the Great Recession, and Obama continued those efforts. There was at least a sensible rationale for those bailouts.

What this admin is doing is different. It’s not bailing out an entire industry during a great recession, but a single company. This isn’t about “Democrats did it before.” That kind of targeted bailout is relatively rare.

I asked a simple question, and instead you went on a tangent attacking Democrats with a couple of incorrect claims.

The question still stands: why is this admin bailing out a single airline?

p.s. The bailout is being considered because Spirit Airlines can’t absorb the huge spike in fuel costs tied to the elective Iran war.

 

Did you read my response about 2 wrongs? I am saying Biden administration was wrong. The merger would have been bad, but not for the reasons it was blocked.

JetBlue just had no business attempting to buy Spirit. It would have exacerbated their own problems. But that was their stupid business decision to make.

The point is there is plenty of competition in the mass movers market and the biden administration should have let the merger go through. This is a key reason why the Democrats lost the election. They were simply preventing key M&A's that have always happened in the past. Lena Khan was garbage.

Maybe a gov takeover, remodel it with faux gold-plated seats, rename it Trump Air, and have taxpayers finance it.

But seriously, Spirit’s business model just doesn’t work when other airlines are offering cheap fares too. Why bail out a single airline that’s had a failing model since COVID? And traditional Republicans oppose bailing out companies, so it doesn’t make much sense.
