Well... that's unfortunately more on Sengun than anything. Guys like Sengun just want the ball, they don't want to set a real pick that would free up someone else. Jabari does the same ****. It could be said that Ime has fostered a culture of selfish play, and that would be his fault, but Sengun has pretty much always been that guy. He's capable, but not often willing to set real picks
The funny thing is that some of the same Reed hate comes from people who talk about how Fred would have made a difference this year. Even though stats show Reed was STATISTICALLY the more impactful player this season than Fred was last year. (ROCKETS OFFENSE WAS NOT SOME WELL OILED MACHINE WITH FRED). And then they'll say "well its the other stuff Fred brought...intangibles and ball security".... All the while ignoring that the Rockets are 17-4 with Reed starting this year. When he was finally inserted with the starting lineup with the other regular starters (not due to injury) they had one of their most successful stretches of the season. And in game 2 vs the lakers in two minutes with the starters they went on a 9-0 run and had their best stretch of the night. Maybe....just maybe...hear me out... The Rockets have a pg who does things that help his teammates even when he's having a fred vanvleet shooting night....But the coach is a moron and wont give the guy who is the closest archetype to the guy who would be starting and playing 40 mins, the same rope. Maybe instead of just resigning yourself to having no pg, give the guy a chance to play pg who's had that "intangible" effect on winning when hes started....the guy whos actually been better than the guy who's spot is being saved.
Reed has looked scared and timid out there. He has averaged 25 MPG so it’s not like he hasn’t been playing. He’s back to picking up his dribble when blitzed and passing up shots. Hopefully another offseason in the gym will improve his strength more.
A little bit misleading. He played 11 minutes last game so a two game average doesn't really tell the story at all. In game one he didn't look timid when he actually played real minutes. You think it's a coincidence he comes out looking tentative the game his role gets cut back?
Im talking about his regular season MPG, where he has experience playing in high leverage situations. You think if Reed calmed down and played his game out there he would be getting his minutes cut? We need his passing and shooting. He was not good at all in the first half in game 2 and never recovered mentally.
Yes, Ime is that incompetent. Last night Reed came into the game and the Rockets went on a 9-0 run and Ime pulled him less than 2 minutes in to kill the run and save the Lakers. Actual performance doesn't matter to Ime.
Yeah I do believe his minutes would have gotten cut because I saw it happen in the regular season. He got his minutes cut during our winning streak while he was playing really well. Let's not pretend like he is getting justifiably benched when the whole team plays like ****. Im not going to hold an inefficient shooting night over a guy in his first playoff game those shots will start dropping. He was playing his game and being aggressive and distributing the ball. I honestly dgaf about the defense because every so called defender on the team couldn't guard either
He played 35 minutes in game 1..... He played scared and timid in game 2. It's not just an inefficient night in game 2..... He kept passing up shots, picking up his dribble too much, and taking too long to get the offense rolling because he was getting blitzed. Reed played poorly in game 2.
Most people outside the Rockets organization, including coaches, former players, and the media, have very high praises for Reed's impact on the team when he is on the court. Except Ime. Could it be that Ime is so annoyed with hearing people about Reed so that he is sticking it to everyone by playing Reed like a yoyo and benching him the moment he makes a mistake. The glaring disparity in treatment is that all of the other players make mistakes, miss a lot of shots, miss defensive assignments, get blown by, and only Reed gets the benching treatment from the incompetent coach of all people. Ime needs to go and give not only Reed, but everyone on the team a chance to improve and contribute. Win or lose in the Lakers' series, there has to be a major change in the brain thrust/coaches of the team and see how this relatively young core can perform under smart and competent head coach and staff.
Can we stop with the calls for more playing time for Reed now. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who was questioning why the hell a guy who couldn't shoot and can't defend was on floor for so many minutes tonight. The answer... who else was he going to play... Holiday? (who sucked as well btw).
The Reed superfans here must admit serious doubts about him are justified. He's been close to useless shooting the ball and a giant liability on defense.
The only thing Reed has for him is that Stone is a moron therefore no one else with his "skillset" is on the team, so relatively speaking he deserves PT over someone else. If he were on any other team with competent PGs, he'd be a spot bench player getting 15 mins a game.
