I'm almost certain he's not the guy but it's coaching malpractice not to play him when you need shooting. Instead, he plays Tate because he's mastered the art of looking busy on the court and it fools Ime.

Tate is not a good defender. He commits some of the dumbest fouls, along with Tari. He doesn't make our defense better. And Ime seems unable to recognize that his Plan A isn't working that's why we don't see Reed on the court.

Ime has no idea period.

 

It's pretty obvious Reed has lost confidence again. The way his minutes get adjusted and knowing UJOKER will tear him a new hole when he makes mistakes has absolutely tanked him. He's playing like last season again, timid, unsure and on a short leash. He's not taking the half chance open shots he was doing in the middle of the season and he is actively looking the pass as soon as he possibly can.

Ime doesn't know how to develop players. This team is toast and Reed is going to be toast for the rest of the series.

 

Kennard blew past holiday for a wide open layup, he isn't better.

 

Reed's mistake there was actually understandable imo. Okogie was literally on the floor with Kennard floating alone to the top of the three point line... Given Okogie's quick recovery, Reed should have moved to Smart, but floating to cover Kennard is not some unforgiveable mistake.

To me, the team is so glaringly lacking GUARD SKILLS. Everyone talks about ball handling and shooting, which are critically important. But it's also the PASSING. Reed makes the right passes. He is a guard. He's been doing that his whole life. These "All Forward" lineups lack ball handling, shooting and passing.. ya know, GUARD SKILLS.

Also, while each individual is a fairly strong defender as a forward, the combination lacks SPEED collectively on defense. And the defense struggles to rotate due to that.

 

I just don't get why holiday is getting Reed's minutes when you can argue he might be even playing worse. And don't get me started on Tate...

Udoka intentionally only played the 5 best players on the team on the court together for a grand total of one minute and 50 seconds all game.

They gave up 0 points and scored 9 points in that time on the court.

This is sabotage through extreme incompetence.

 

Is Luke Kennard a great defender? Actually he's been one of the leagues WORST DEFENDERS for nearly his whole career.

Yet we can't seem to get reliable mis-matches on him and score on him.. why? because the Lakers have done a fantastic job at scheming him out of actions. The same way it would be hard to hunt Curry down every possession as well. We're supposed to have all these long wing players yet we struggle at hiding Reed defensively. This is from a "defensive guru" head coach.

Give me a ****ing break.

ps Reed had 3 assists and 0 TO in 11 minutes.

 

Secret weapon Tate also got blown by several times when I actually paid some attention to the game.

 

Reed played poorly, but he's constantly looking over his shoulder for fear of getting pulled. In his defense, he didn't have time to find his rhythm. I think we all knew this was going to happen.

I see the arguments on Reed both ways. I have been pretty disappointed with his minutes, in terms of shooting, passing, and defense. But we need someone who can at least potentially shoot and pass. It just seems none of our options are great.
