I agree with everything mentioned here and hope we can avoid these picks. Although I do like Slaughter, I recognise he might not be a good fit

After free agency I dont think the Texans are dependent on any rookies coming in and raising the team's floor. Casserio brings back the staunch defense the Texans had last year and, I think, has improved the running game which will hopefully take some pressure off of Stroud. The Texans now might be able to win games pounding the rock. At least there should be more concern about their ability to run the ball which should open things up a bit for Stroud and co. So I dont think they NEED a difference maker out of the draft. Instead I think they are looking to draft for depth with their future salary cap in mind. I think theyll look for guys they can develop in their system to be contributors moreso than foundational pieces. So here is my draft a week out:

1.28 - Traded to Arizona for 2.34, 4.104 and a third in 2027 (Ty Simpson to Arizona) - I have been proposing this for a while but now worry Arizona will need to move higher up to get Simpson

2.34 - Peter Woods, DT Clemson - I think this is a homerun pick if Demeco can get everything out of him. High ceiling player that fits a need.
2.38 - Gabe Jacas, DE Illinois - If he is there he is a value pick and allows us to spell our DE duo on 1st and 2nd downs.
2.59 - Gennings Dunker, OG/OT Iowa - Embodies what the Texans want their line to be. I think he can stick at RT a la Braden Smith.
3.69 - Oscar Delp, TE Georgia - A TE that can block and be more than a check down, safety valve would do wonders for the Offense
4.104 - Sam Roush, TE Stanford - I think the Texans will run more 12 personnel to establish the run game. TEs that can block are needed
4.106 - Jeff Caldwell, WR Cincinnati - Fits the size/speed profile Casserio likes (Nico and Higgins). Potential red zone weapon
5.141 - Jordan van den Berg, DT Georgia tech - NT that can do what Demeco wants at 300+ lbs due to his ++ athleticism
5.167 - Jaden Dugger, LB Louisiana - Like many of my picks I am betting on traits. Give this guy a year with Demeco and the coaching staff...
7.243 - Josh Gesky, IOL Illinois - Quick and strong 3 year starter in the Big 10. Future at LG who will spell Teller.

    UDFA
Tyren Montgomery, WR John Carroll - I really considered drafting him but figured Casserio would have the inside track on signing him as an UDFA
Dean Connors, RB Houston/Rice - Will compete with Jawhar Jordan for RB3 reps
Noah Thomas, WR Georgia - Another size/speed wideout to develop on the practice squad
Aaron Anderson, WR LSU - Slot/gadget player that could be something with his speed and elusiveness
PJ Williams, OT SMU - Potential swing OT to groom

Love the player, but like Houston Stressans, I feel like Slaughters more of a zone based scheme Center.

I like Tony, but he is also the guy who swore up and down that the Texans first call would be to Cade Mays in FA... IJS

My gosh I love all the draft talk..................so many possibilities, and the draft is like Xmas day to me. One thing I think we have seen over the years is there is no leaking about picks from Nick and Ryans, so whatever the so-called experts think IMO is strictly their own opinion and no inside juice.

My gut tells me Nick moves back and picks up draft capital, but my head wants him to trade draft capital and move WAY up and gets a real stud at any position of need

I would pick Proctor in a heartbeat at 1-28. He's a young Trent Brown.

Guys I like that could possibly be there at 1-28

    Proctor/Sadiq/Ieanachor/Rutledge/Ioane/Hill/McDonald/Lawrence/Messidor.

Love this mock besides the Woods pick. I'm not a fan of underachievers.

Tony's not tied to any team or large network. He's usually pretty accurate and not afraid to release the information he receives. Texans looking for a guard that can also play center is what I've already speculated. The Guards they have used their top 30 visits on and spent time with are ones that a lot of people have speculated that could also play Center (Parker, Zuhn, Gesky, Rutledge, Nwaiwu). The DT in round 3 make sense too. Tyler Onyedim and Dominique Orange would be good pickups for the Texans in that round. The one position that I am absolutely certain the Texans will draft at is Linebacker. The Texans have met and spent time with every draftable linebacker in the draft.

Personally I wouldn't put a lot of faith in specific names associated with Texans or other teams. Some of that is smoke and mirrors to mask the players they're really interested in. For example, OCs we're supposedly targeting include Slaughter, Lew and Zuhn. Maybe one or all of those guys are potential targets, or maybe they aren't.

I do think Coach Ryans is excited about this LB class. I really like Jacob Rodriguez, he could be our long-term answer at MLB, but play with Azeez until that day. JR's instincts are elite and he would add a turnover creating machine to our already stud defense. He's projected to go in the early 2nd. If we trade back with Jets or Cards, then those would be ideal spots to make sure we get him. If we don't trade back, I'd be ok with him or Keylan Rutledge at #28. I think most of the OTs will be gone before us and I'm not that high on any of the top-rated DTs.

Speaking of LBs, if we miss out on Rodriguez, Golday and Hill; two guys I like in the 5th rd area are Jack Kelly/BYU and Harold Perkins Jr. Kelly was a 4-year starter (47 games Weber St/BYU), 2-time Team Capt, 43.5 TFL/31.5 Sacks/9 FF/10 PD/2 INTs. He weighs in the 240 range and ran a 4.57/40. Brugler describes him as, "Combative, violent play style as a tackler and when taking on blocks." Sounds like SWARM to me! HP's fam resettled in Cypress from New Orleans. Kid was incredible for Cy Park's FB team, playing both ways and graduating with 4.9 GPA! Started 36/43 games with ACL limiting him to 4 games in 2024. Twitchy athlete with 4.45/40 and great production--35.5 TFL/17 sacks/8 FF/12 PD/5 INTs. Both these guys would also likely be great ST contributors.

Honestly, the closer we get to the draft, the more my doubts grow about every prospect I’ve liked.
