The Astros have definitely been very very good and had a ridiculously crazy start, but they aren't even way better than other 2026 teams in offense. 5th in Runs / Game 5th in HRs 6th in AVG 2nd in OBP 3rd in OPS Again, all very good, but not generational offense when you're not even clearly the best in your own season.
For 23-game stretches, I assume 1-5 teams are almost always playing like one of the best offenses of all time. The season isn't done. I specifically mentioned regression going forward being likely as the generational offenses do this for the entire season (not just 23 games). However, the 2026 Astros look like a random 23-game sample of an AL generational offense for context-adjusted rate metrics. That said, I was purposely using the American League to lower the bar. I typically like wRC+ (a context-adjusted rate metric) for comparing across generations. For this year: Astros are 1st in the AL in wRC+ (1st in OPS which correlates very well with wRC+) For all-time in the AL in wRC+ 2026 Astros are 5th The Astros may not finish as a generational offense, but this is what an AL generational offense typically looks like for 23 random games on average.
