lol 1 earned run only because matthews error. He gave up a bases clearing double. 3 runs. Also okert gave up one of burrows runs with 2 outs. Dont distort it.
I agree with 1 and 3 but Miller deserves a longer leash given the success we’ve had in the past. Perhaps Murphy was the brains behind the operation but can’t just fire someone after one bad month.
King shouldn’t be pitching two innings. Once again, this happened because our starters can’t make it 5 innings and Abreu suddenly forgot how to pitch or is hurt. I’m not arguing the bullpen is good (they have been bad too) but just weird to keep crying solely about it while once again our starters can’t make it 5 innings.
you could send matthews down, but you cant react to one games mistakes as a reason to send down. Then every young player will have the looming I make one mistake and Im going to be sent down hanging over there head the entire time they are here.
upset at bullpen because we did nothing to make it better. We added a couple bad and meh arms. With the Hader offseason knowing hes hurt you had to add another good late arm even if abreu was good. Today Burrows 4 & 2/3rds gave up 3 of his own Bullpen 5 1/3 gave up 4 runs. Equally bad today. But burrows was really solid through 4. Offense was sub par today. Disagree with the move up pinch running for paredes in a game with 2 outs and no one in scoring position to pinch run for.
Pinch running Brice in that situation was terrible. Joe is not manager material. Yes I know we already knew that
Three weeks into the season, Astros have been swept 3x. Sweep/week None were 2-game. One was a 4-game. 8-15.... that's how a record gets ugly quickly
Absolutely zero need to feel pity for any of us. I can only speak for myself, but the last 10 years being a fan of this baseball team has been absolutely glorious of course set aside 2019. Having said that we all knew this is gonna end at some point. The fact that it lasted this long is unbelievable and I’m not sure any of us saw it ending like this if this is how it’s gonna end, meaning all the injuries a couple missteps In player acquisition and Joe Espada at the helm. Again, no need to feel sorry for us, no pity really we still have all the memories and two trophies. No one can take that away from us. My father was a lifelong colt 45 and Astros fan and never got to see any of this and I know a lot of my friends and family no longer here that never got to see any of this so hard to feel sorry for us. I can think of a few organizations out there they would’ve loved to have our run……
Walker is hitting consistently into the ground and not lifting the ball lately. I didn’t agree with Matthews for Paredes on a tie game with two outs, man not even at second. High possibility of extras. Liked what I saw from Burrows.
It has nothing to do with getting picked off followed by a critical error. He’s batting .107 and has struck out in over half his ABs.
That’s fair but we also lost Framber and the arms we added have been complete busts so far. Could that change? Sure. Just like the bullpen could stabilize upon the return of Hader and Sousa. That being said, it doesn’t matter what the bullpen does if we don’t have a single starter worth a damn. IMO the bullpen has a far greater chance of being decent than the starters do the rest of season.
I think burrows rebounds. Arrighetti will be decent by comparison of what we have had. I wish we could stretch blubaugh out to starting. Using him once a week for 2-3 inning rekief doesnt feel worth it.
Yeah, I agree with both of those takes - Burrows I still feel will be decent moving forward. Those aren’t guys who are going to eat a ton of innings and/or provide ace level stuff though. Regarding the bullpen, they didn’t add there because they weren’t going to go over the luxury tax - they used every dollar on the starters. If money wasn’t an issue, yeah we should have added to the pen. We wouldn’t have salary dumped Dubon and we wouldn’t be playing Nick Allen, Bryce Matthews, etc. We have so much money tied up in our starters for absolutely zero returns. Imai, Javier and LMJ all have provided nothing or worse than nothing.
Anyone talking about hitting is wasting their time. If we can't stop the other team from scoring 5 or 6 runs a game it doesn't matter. Our hitting has been borderline GREAT. Pitching has been ass. This whole challenge zone has put an emphasis on pitchers that throw on the edges of the zone, we are walking far too many and hitting too many batters, worst in the league in both. That is a joke...and has to stop. DD
Burrows was great until he wasn't, Yordan did Yordan things....once we went to extra innings I knew we were cooked. Our pitching just isn't up to our normal standards, no JV, no Framber, no Hunter, no Hader.....................Breggy is gone, King Tuck is gone, when you're not willing to pay eventually it catches up with you and here is where we are. Bad luck, injuries and I am sorry, Joe`s decisions like having the new guy run the bases and gets caught in a run down at home and subbing Isac for Mathews are things that should get you fired..............We are who we are, a team whose pitching will get us to nowhere and an offense who should almost be enough, but isn't. Good Lord, this is gonna be a long season.
Borderline? The Astros offense feels like the 2019 Astros, 2017 Astros. Of American League teams, maybe the 27 Yankees or a couple of other Yankees teams from that era have hit better for a season, but that was well before I was born. Granted, I expect some regression, but they have been GREAT so far.
