So you'd rather have us keep Yordan if we're not in the playoff hunt and keep us out of contention for the next decade? Im sure all of us want the Astros to win the championship this year but if we're clearly out of it come June there's no point in hanging on to our best trade prospect. You can't be emotionally connected to any single player in sports
The Astros are willing to spend money. You can trade the other pieces (Hunter, Pena, Hader, Paredes, King, etc.) and gather enough prospects that you can start trying to compete again in 2028. You don’t find hitters like Yordan and we’re never going to pay anyone near his talent on the open market. If he’s willing to work on an extension to stay here, you do it. Otherwise, yeah you’ve got to start considering trading him.
Meant to say Clark not kent. Clark is #8 ND McGonigle is #2 on the mlb top 100. Jansen has been rock solid for them so I doubt they'd want hader but I'd also want Briceño who's another top prospect in their system who has huge upside as a catcher.
Given the Astro's luck, whatever players they got in return would be hurt within days. Yordan would go on a five year tear batting 350!
If I knew we wouldn’t make the playoffs for a literal decade then I guess I’d have to evaluate it differently, but that’s a gigantic assumption.
If the Astros aren't in the playoff hunt for the next decade with Alvarez, the Astros aren't in the playoff hunt for the next decade by trading Alvarez. Granted, I think the Astros are in for rough times. I just don't think trading Alvarez would fix a decade worth of non-contention on his own.
Trading Altuve is one of the most hilarious propositions I've ever heard. It'd be like trading Biggio when he had 2896 hits.
I can't think of any worse scenario than trading Yordan as a fan. None! That would be like trading a Rolls Royce for a few reliable cars, that don't turn any heads, or draw any excitement by anyone walking by. Give me my excitement, my home run slugger, my Rolls Royce of baseball, who makes Astros games fun for me to watch!
I'm kind of agnostic on the idea of trading Alvarez because I am a fan. That said, the idea of not trading Alvarez is like being homeless with a Rolls-Royce. Sure, you could sell the Rolls, get a cheaper car so you could afford a place to stay, but having the Rolls so homies can watch you pass is just priceless.
Nice chrome rims on a beat up Ford Pinto. You never know when that accident will happen causing it to explode. And FTR I too want Yordan to be a lifelong Astro and challenge for the Mt Rushmore regardless of what he may bring in a trade or how good the team is.
We just had bad luck with our only good pitchers falling apart. We have lots of good fielders and hitters already, but nobody like Yordan when it comes to pure power and excitement. It's the pitching! It's the injuries! It's the extended use leading to them being injured on top of it. If we have to trade anyone for pitchers, or suck up some luxury tax so be it, but I will never be on board trading the most exciting player on our offense. Never! I want him here for life.
