Stone needs to be fired for not doing anything all year to improve the team. What a pathetic showing by the Rockets.
I guess two 2nds for Colby White was too much of an asking price. Though Colby was pretty hobbled at the end.
You draft the best talents available, not the 3rd or 4th best just because they might not fit. Especially in the early lottery. It's pretty obvious that they did have a philosophy on roster building - a defensive team that rebounds well. You assume they didn't prioritize development but here we are, Amen, Reed, Sengun and Jabari all playing a big role on a playoff team ... They've gone from a team that finished 20-62 in Sengun's first year to back to back 52 win seasons. Nope, no development there .... The team did all it could for four years to develop Jalen Green. KPJ was another developmental player a lottery ticket than didn't hit the work out, but the kid had talent and taking a chance on him was worth it because it cost nothing. Yep, he's an idiot. He's still in the league and shot .494/.408/.871 for the season last year. That team had maybe 3 NBA players on it after Harden left - they were looking under every rock and in every corner to uncover talent. Blaming Stone for taking that chance is just silly. That was a risk worth taking, until it wasn't. Wood was already on the team before the rebuild started. He was a Morey move, he played one year with Jalen & Sengun and was gone. Hell, he had talent too, he just didn't care much. None of these players have "developed" into what we hoped they would, but they have all developed to some degree. And that's no indictment upon the front office or coaching staff of "Not prioritizing development.". This is just a made up complaint. IF Tilman wanted that guy in the front office, it would happen. Meh, we pretty much agree on this - not terrible, not great.
Actually 3 seconds and don't forget the matching salary of $12.9m So, who makes that matching salary? Tari+ Capela isn't enough because you have no money left to fill the last mandatory roster spot. 2 players going out with only 1 coming in. Teams must carry 14 players on the main roster. DFS would have been enough $$ but that isn't the same as the expiring contracts that Charlotte sent out (Ousmane Dieng & Collin Sexton). You would probably have to add at least a first round pick to move off of DFS contract. (And Ime wasn't trading him anyway). Would you have done DFS and a #1 for a White Rental? Other options - One of Amen and Tari or Reed and Tari. Are you really doing either of those deals? Didn't think so. There's a reason Stone didn't make a move - it didn't make sense & wasted assets on a rental that would have reduced Reed's minutes significantly. Colby White for 2 second sounds great but it wasn't realistic. The only realistic move financially would have been Tari for Alvarado - would you have done that?
'Is this not our tool?' His playing this off as nothing, him playing the victim here, it is all a show for him. Going to the Chronicle and whine about all the injustices dealt to him and his job standing, I had to laugh my butt off. This is the softest GM Kobe Bryant can call out from the Beyond.
Yes, or a 1st plus DFS and extension. I think White is a smarter player than most of ours. Either our coach is doing a poor job or our players are relatively dumber at hoops at every position. Yes, the shooting talent is glaring, but it's so hard to win when you're consistently making the wrong move on when to drop, when to show, when to fight over, who to rotate to, where to close to. It's maddening. I'm sure your cooler has is a fair approach, but it's just extremely frustrating to be a fan this season.
it’s not about the deadline. It’s about tjat I don’t think Stone is a good enough GM. There’s a 6 yr track record at this point. But specifically: our player development is bad. And he fumbled away a potential top pick in a generational draft. Those things really hurt. Plus no franchise player. Finding a franchise player and making sure our players are developing well, are two critical benchmarks for a good GM. And maybe don’t trade away a potential top pick in a franchise changing draft.
Consider that the Portland trailblazers found a better player than anyone on our team not named KD. They didn’t tank to draft him. They identified him as a talented young player on the rise and they went out and traded for him. They got an all-nba player who is just starting to hit his prime through smart maneuvering. We are heading into yr 7 in the Stone era and we don’t have a player like that. The draft record has been mixed. The only trade of consequence the last several yrs was for a 37 yr old KD, who only makes sense if we are contending, which we are not. it’s not good enough. So many of those bottom of the barrel teams in 2021 now have a franchise guy. We don’t. I have no idea why the org isn’t making the acquisition of a franchise guy under the age of 28 the most important priority.
It's sad watching Cade, Banchero, Chet, all thrive and we just missed the boat with some clearly inferior players in drafting Green & Jabari. Both weak, tend to fade on their shots, cannot handle the ball well etc. If only got 1 pick higher in either draft. ****!
There is also such thing as new talented GMs and executives, this is not a whoever is the oldest is the best......the Rockets gave up years ago.....
It indeed is not. I don’t think we will do anything with KD and Ime here so say goodbye to next 3-4 years. 2030-2040 we might get lucky.
