Was thinking, its Caserio punctuating his own great draft day move, as a credit to himself as much as Will. Feeling himself too much on his own success lol. Caserio's actual 1 decent ability is cap management. But it's like it's either 1 year deals & buy-low shopping, or its over "treating" certain players. Such as, Giving 2nd round pick Jayden Higgins a fully guaranteed deal, for seemingly little reason other than "potential benefit in its 4th-5th year". It wasnt the worst move, but it's like the same question here of " is that "so" necessary to do"?
23 mil for Tytus, 11 mil for Kirk, 7 mil each for Cam Robinson and Shaq Mason wtf?! How does Rankins have 2 mil in dead money when he's in the team? Nick has to get better at this ****. This is hurting the team's flexibility. Seattle in contrast, has $483,000 in dead money this season Edit: Seattle carried $88,180,219 in dead money in 2025, I'll shut the **** up now lol
To see the price fully, we have to take into account the time value of money. The bulk of the money are for seasons averaging 4 years out (3,4 and 5 years out.) While we can't know the future, NFL salaries are rising far faster than normal people's salaries. But it's easy to understand if you ask whether you want your paycheck on Friday or 4 years from Friday. I suspect the contract will be modified for future cap relief as needed.
The signing of Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter were the two biggest priorities of the offseason and they're out of the way. Anderson's AAV is still below Garrett if you look at his 2 remaining years. It's the price you have to pay for premium talent. The Texans can't really be commended for not giving Stroud an extension -- he in no way deserved it and everyone knows it. The question is, will running it back with him as starting QB waste another season of prime Anderson and Hunter? Defenses like this don't come around often... Caserio has to sack up and have hardy veterans ready to replace Stroud the second he starts imploding.
You really need to be quiet. https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/2026-mock-draft-simulator-trades.328960/
I think both sides recognize CJ will be worth more after a great season or even a good post season than he is right now. There is no conflict to wait for the extension.
It's also good protection for the Texans if he isn't good or great next season. Can't give away a massive deal to a QB who was awful in the playoffs last season and honestly hasn't been as good as he was his rookie season in the 2 years since. This season is massive for him and the franchise. If Stroud is good he'll get paid and the Texans should be championship contenders. If he's bad again, the Texans can and should cut him and move on.
They got his 5th year and 2 f tag’s; if he sucks after that, he’s gone. Probably also why mills isn’t gone yet
I know they could keep him longer, but i think it he sucks next season they decline the team option and move on
CJs fifth year Option was already exercised. They cannot decline it now. If he's worth a Franchise Tag, then he's worth an extension. So perhaps this is what you meant.
You think it was wrong to pick up 5th year? Should they just let him walk after this year? That was the plan? Perhaps you have zero trust in the man, I understand after that Pats game. Well, after the playoffs. Glad you don't run the team. CJ is the quarterback this year. What if you are completely wrong and he goes off, better than Rookie year, gets his head right and by grace of God, this city's football team wins a Superbowl. Then what, he is free agent? Wow, that would be nuts. You now don't get to pay him 5th year money (I think $27 million est.) but will need to make him highest pay in the league. You just lost at least $25 million and for what? On other hand, say he sucks, beyond last playoffs, then you have one year to get someone. But that would be the fortunes of this franchise. Really, if this team, as setup, with this defense, and hopefully, a functional offense, doesn't do the job, then it will be a very long wait indeed. (pray for good heath) I heard Seattle had the best injury situation in the league last year. It certainly helps. Imagine if Nico and the TE were playing in that Pats game.
I think it would have been better to make him earn that 5th year payday. You see what he does this season, if he's good, you give him the massive payday with a new contract or tag him. There was no risk of losing him. As to if I trust CJ....I did this time last year and he showed that he did not deserve that trust with yet another let down season and completely falling on his face in the postseason. Having picked up the 5th year, you gain nothing, but if he sucks, you are stuck on the hook paying a scrub 26 million....having to potentially cut players to make room to keep him and not being able to address the QB position for yet another year.
What if he's right, another yr of wasting a great defense. If you bet and lose you really haven't lost anything in fact you won because there will be a Lombardi in the trophy down on Kirby. They probably wont let CJ go regardless of how he plays because Hannah wont admit she and the fan council was wrong. To answer your question for what, for what means that I wont have to watch historically bad QB play from the QB of the team I root for and this is regardless of whether Nico/Schultz etc.. are hurt. I dont care who is hurt the QB cant play like CJ did in the playoffs and ever expect to win a SB.
