5 years, going into his 4th season, they picked up his 5th year option and now the three year extension, nearly identical to what they did for Sting. Both probably go to two-year deals like Danielle after their extensions are up, They’re likely structuring it so his base salary stays low while bonuses boost his earnings, similar to how Danielle made $32M this year on just a $1.3M base. I feel like this WAJ deal puts Danielle on the clock. Unless he agrees to a pay cut (or the team moves on from C.J. and resets with a rookie QB) he's more than likely on his last deal with the Texans, there are just too many guys that gotta get paid
I think that's more of a statement from the organization that they will not even pick up the phone to discuss a trade for WAJ
Gotta give credit to BDN for extending all the superstar guys at this moments current max deals to only get great value throughout the term. Its a win-win situation.
Love the signing and the 3 Years is a good deal for both parties. The big $$ starts when Hunter`s deal is done so I think I see the writing on the wall on how they will pay for part of it, In the next 2 drafts we need to find Hunter's replacement We will have the same issue when Kamari has to get paid, will he and Sting both be on the team at the same time or are we finding a replacement for one of them. Kamari is going to get paid BIG TIME and while I love our D we cant pay everyone top dollar CJ, my man, the clock is ticking and I fully expect (wish, hope, pray) him to have a HELL of a year to get back in the convo of an extension.........Its SB or bust baby. If.......If........If he has a year similar to last year, he will either get offered a below market contract or will be trade bait BUT I really, really want him to tear it up
2026 Last year of Rookie deal 2027 Fifth year option 2028,2029 and 2030 Extension UFA 2031 Our Podcasters are not very good at contract language. The language is EXTENSION, not replacement and new which happens at times. I'm waiting for the mia culpas. So far, only Chuggs has it right.
Texans Contracts Year-by-year (they didn't add WAJ #s yet) https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/houston-texans/yearly Also, we're eating $66M in dead cap this year. So we should get that back in 2027 + cap increase.
