Banchero wouldn't fit with Sengun or Amen, so sadly, there isn't a trade there. I do wonder if there is a Smith+Sheppard for Wagner type of trade that could be made though. FVV Amen Franz KD Sengun is a very interesting team.
Banchero can fit with Thompson. Almost no one can fit with Sengun at this point. The Magic are not dealing Wagner if they still haver Banchero on the roster.
Agree with this. Also want to say I think Banchero isn't in the best of shape. Not that he every was an explosive athlete, but he seems less explosive now than he was as a rookie. He should have more downhill thrust than he does. Maybe lose 10lbs. He needs better coaching.
Interesting post. I. haven't been able to follow much the last two years, what type of player fits with Sengun?
You didn’t ask me, but I’ll answer in my opinion. Chet, Wemby, maybe Myles Turner. A frontcourt partner who can cover his back on defense and stretch the floor on offense.
A post defender that can block shots, can switch well and also can shoot outside to cover up the poor perimeter shooting --- and also is comfortable playing in the half court, but will not crowd him inside getting rebounds. Not a lot of guys fit that mold.
You have to change the type of shots Banchero takes, and have to be convert in the open court --- but it is at least possible. It isn't any worse of a fit than Sengun and Amen.
I rather us get Wagner, over Banchero, Wagner is is a better team defender and shooter, if we can trick magic into thinking Banchero can be saved just get rid of Wagner, i will be happy, and if we need to get rid of wagner he will have better valule overall.
Magic only drafted him because stone pretty much showed the whole world he rather have Paolo over anyone in the draft and if he had the #1 pick he was going to pick him, Magic had a good first year and some playoff moments but they will never get the max value out of Paolo they're a horrible run team.
Banchero can only score at the rim. Banchero trying to score at the rim with Amen's man and the center is a much worse fit offensively than Amen and Sengun. Sengun is more efficient and already has to deal with Amen's man. Maybe Paolo is a better fit for defense.
I am not in love with either of them because both currently have flaws that really limit their effectiveness when it comes to contributing to winning. No.
I feel like Sengun's defense holds up okay 1 on 1 against other centers for the most part, and he's also pretty average on switchability. He's actually pretty good at generating steals (#2 among centers) without gambling too much as well. What he doesn't give you is much rim protection at all, which means it's hard to field a good defense without a strong defensive perimeter, and the fit with anybody in the Reed Sheppard "guard who can't stop the ball" mold is very poor absent a rim protecting power forward. And of course the floor spacing issue you mentioned. I feel like if you had a good weakside shotblocking, floor-spacing PF ala Mobley, JJJ that might be an okay fit. It's still a rare and expensive archetype though. Jabari is probably already in the top 10, if not borderline type 5, in terms of coming kinda close, and we've seen that it still doesn't work out great defensively with some lineups.
It's interesting to compare Banchero and Sengun. Banchero's efficiency is worse than Sengun. He is only slightly better than Sengun at 3pt shooting, but worse at scoring inside 10 ft. His defense is not much better either. Sengun is a better rebounder and shot blocker. Their assist numbers are remarkably similar. I'd say overall, Banchero is a worse version of Sengun and he doesn't improve on the shooting issue in the fitting with Amen. Teams would dare him to shoot from outside just like what they do to Sengun.
