NYT: acting head of CDC delayed the publication of a research report showing that the Covid vaccine significantly reduced the likelihood of hospitalizations and ER visits last winter

 

The study had been green-lit by the CDC’s scientific review process but acting CDC Director Jay Bhattacharya
delayed the report over methodological concerns.

The postponement occurred despite the CDC's long history of using the same methodology to assess respiratory virus vaccines, including flu shots. Those methods also underpinned a 2021 New England Journal of Medicine study on Covid vaccine effectiveness.

I think a significant fractions of the Republicans in congress firmly qualify as members of the quack-o-sphere themselves, and those who aren't know the value of pandering to their quacky voters so I'm betting on "no".

 

Do these idiots not care that measles can lead to pneumonia, encephalitis (brain swelling), and death? I don't get the stupidity. The lack of concern by both our health officials and parents is disturbing. We keep taking backwards minded steps in science and health that make no damn sense.

 

Just want to say **** RFK JR for recently killing mRNA research into cures for pancreatic cancer - a literal death sentence, but this drugged out brain worm sack is condeming people to die instead, like he's trying to get children to get measles. Monstrous.

 

This is horrible. RFK Jr. is horrible, and he's aiding and abetting this exponentially bad trend.

But it's also worth noting: This trend precedes January 2025. America was embracing the dumb no matter who was helming NIH and CDC and no matter what the government was saying. Now it is getting much worse much faster, but this country has been flirting with a dark age, just as a culture, separate from our broken politics.

 

True. That all started with the quack COVID cures, Trump and his quack "medical experts" pushed and MAGA folks started taking, while making no vaxxing such a big stance of MAGA loyalty. That mindset started spreading to other vaccines, thanks to Trump's quack pot pick RFK Jr. A man who had brain worms leading a cult of red hatters into taking deworming meds is like some science fiction movie of the world going mad with a bunch of crazy red hatters, and a man who covers his face in orange foundation as President. It's such a perfect scenario for the old show Mystery Science Theater.

Trump didn't help, for sure. I agree.

But I gotta tell you, I've watched some super-liberal areas (Marin County, north of SF, and Santa Cruz, south of SF) get progressively worse on vaccine rates over the last 25 years. The far left and far right have a lot in common when it comes to dangerous magical thinking actually.
