What I saw that was streamed, and looking at the lineups, etc. made me pretty depressed about the state of our music scene. Especially what has happened to the festival scene, and Coachella.

Look I enjoy electronic music. Especially Deep house, trip hop, and trance. However how Coachella has decided to cater to the crowd that just wants EDC 2.0 with a couple rock acts is just mind blowing.

Also no real big legacy acts unless you include the Strokes in that category.

I think it's still likely a very fun weekend with a ton of great music. However at the cost, and the lack of real important historically significant acts, I think music fans are far better off dedicating their money, and time to comparable festivals in terms of talented artists. ACL and Lollapalooza will likely have just as high of quality of acts, and cater more acts towards indie, rock, and more hip hop too.... which is crazy that nowadays ACL caters more to hip hop than Coachella.

Turnstile is good, cool to see Suicidal Tendencies still going but to book the Black Flag cover band for the festival is sad af.

I dunno what you mean by we aren’t the demo, do you mean just Bieber? Then yes, because I’m not a Millennial white woman.

Otherwise this is a pretty broad range of music genres. It is pricey with aftermarket weekend passes going for $2-5k.

when it started it leaned more into "alternative" music (for lack of a better word). its just evolved into something more mainstream, which im not saying is good or bad...but the kind of bands they book now are not anything im interested in...but on the flipside, the bands id go to see are not the kind of bands that people who go to coachella want to see. the bookers/promoters know their demographic and are catering to it. it is what it is.

all big american festivals have kinda gone this route. look at lollapalooza lineups now. its a far cry from the kind of bands they booked in the 90's. ACL fest too. i went to coachella in 2004 and the headliners were pixies, radiohead, the cure, flaming lips and air. every stage had stuff i wanted to see going on all day. they arent booking bands like that anymore.

the beiber thing was odd...playing youtube videos for a part of his set, but im guessing his fans didnt mind.

Billing Kaskade over Subtronics is all you need to know about the demographics of this festival. While entertaining, Kaskade is a legacy act. Subtronics is one of the biggest acts in EDM.

Out of that entire lineup, I wouldn't mind seeing Devo or Black Flag...

Seems like it's become more of an Instagram moment type thing than actually being about seeing some interesting live music. More influencers than actual music fans.
