China doesn't have draw everything from their SPR to make up for the barrels not coming from SoH. Chinese refineries just have to buy from the global market like everyone else. US and other countries is releasing 400 million barrels of SPR and China is sucking it up like everyone else.

It is going to cost more money, but China can afford the elevated prices better than poorer countries like the Philippines or India. It will likely trigger massive global inflation like the supply crunch after COVID.

If the war drags on, everyone will be hurting. I don't see China as being dramatically more exposed than others.

 

If you just imagine Trump issuing every edict and decision in the voice of Eric Cartman, it makes surprisingly good sense.

The Moran in Chief is failing.

 

Trump said the US Navy will block "any and all ships trying to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz" and will "seek and interdict every vessel in international waters that has paid a toll to Iran." Which was nutz.

Yesterday, CENTCOM walked that back. They are now blocking "all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports." They will "not impede freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports."

The risk of escalation with China changes slightly but remains largely the same.

The blockade is also being carried out solely by the US, with zero allies involved. No one want to be dragged into this war, especially not with China.

There is also still the issue of mines needing to be cleared, which cannot happen until there is a real ceasefire. Blocking ports has already broken the ceasefire.
