if and IF the pitching becomes average then maybe they'll be a postseason team.

There is nothing saving this pitching staff this season. Miller and Espada need to go.

I am not willing to make a blow-it-all-up-now decision after just 10% of the season.

This team is going no where without some competent pitchers. We can score 6+ runs a game on average and still lose 60% the remaining games.

I won’t really have an opinion until we get concrete news on Brown’s injury or another few weeks passes. I said at the outset that if Houston goes 16-14 or worse over their first 30 games, they should sell at the deadline. They’d have to go 11-3 over their next 14 games to avoid that mark, which ain’t happening.

That said, Houston is in a pickle. Altuve, Alvarez, Correa, McCullers, and Hader have full no trade clauses. Walker has a partial no-trade clause. Diaz and Abreu are playing terribly. Meyers, Pena, Brown, and Imai are hurt. Smith and Burrows are the kinds of players you trade for during a rebuild. Out of the remaining players, Isaac Paredes and Bryan King are probabiy the only 2 guys who would bring back anything significant in trade. So blowing it all up is not really even an option. Houston really needs Brown, Imai, and Pena to come back by June 1 and perform; that will either let them hang around enough to buy at the deadline or at least give them some trade chips to reverse the organization’s trajectory. Because as it stands, they are looking at the 95% of the same roster next season.

You cant possibly have any clue this early. So everyone will just say no because of bad attitude losing streak. Why didnt you ask this question when we were 5-2. Because the same people saying no would be saying yes.

sitting at 5-2, they didn't have the starting pitching injuries that they're seeing now.

I'm gonna say yes. If we can get our best starting pitchers back, and they stay healthy we have a chance. That's a big if though, because our other starters have to play better. We also need to sign another pitcher. We can't survive like this, walking 9 guys a game. We have the batters this year, which gives me hope.

    This is beyond over.

The problem is Crane won't fire Brown, which likely means Brown isn't firing his choice he made for manager.

I think it depends on the health of Brown, Imai, and Hader. And beyond that, how willing they are to aggressively fix problems. If bullpen people can't throw strikes, they need to be sent down and bring up a whole new crop until they find people that can. Same with starters - when you have your full complement, you can handle short outings from Lance or Bolton or whatnot. But without the top guys, you have to bring up your 2 or 3 best starters in the minors and give them a chance. If they fail, bring up a few more. Find out who can give you consistent decent 5-6 inning outings as quickly as possible and go with them. Let the offense carry you for now and then figure out a longer-term plan for pitching later in the season. But given the universal struggles of the whole staff, you only have so much rope you can give to fringe players to work things out.

Never was a post season team. If they did make it since they are in a bad division it would be similar to 2024. Blink and its over with.

IMO were an above average team with all our horses, not having Hader is bad, mix in not having Hunter and it gets worse. No one expected our pitching to be this bad, IMO Lance is no better than a long reliever and Imi will get back on track. I don't have a ton of faith that this ship will right itself but its early so we`ll see........starters that can't go more than 1 inning is bizarre and we did it twice this series and our relivers suck at the moment and there taxed to boot

As a fan this is depressing, I didn't even watch yesterday but the Masters was a better draw to me. The pitching cant get any worse................can it?

the pitching staff : hold my beer

but really it's just a dumpster fire. It's a Travesty because Yordan is shaping out to have a damn good season.
