My bad..freelands salary js actually $16million this year so yeah probably not worth the prospect cost unless Colorado eats some of it

When you have a talent evaluator like Luhnow, you can employ that strategy. Everything and everyone that makes the Astros remotely above average with a shot at competing is from his leadership and eye for talent.

The list of talent that got away is an All Star team in itself. We've seen an underwhelming roster for 3 years now while the rest of the league stacks up and LA outright buys every marquee player.

You need to take some risks at this point before Pena, Alvarez, Hunter etc leave. To salvage some dignity. Bauer is an elite arm who clearly was taken advantage of --- he may be a weirdo, but he ain't a bad person. He's definitely no Osuna. It's not like you have to sign him to a big, long term contract.

Do you really think Brice Mathews or whoever the Astros view as expendable can bring in a contributing SP? It seems like casual fans only want to make a deal if the Astros can bring in Skenes or Skubal. They don't have what the Mets gave up for Freddy Peralta. I'd atleast look at bringing back Yusei Kikuchi -- he's off to a bad start but is an innings eater who we know has the stuff.

I won't apologize for not being a status quo type who just wants to go to the ball park and root for the home team. I want to compete for the pennant and obvious changes need to be made.

    Arrighetti is not 29 dude.
Also- anyone who doesn't understand that leaving arrighetti down for one more turn through the big league rotation to get a year isn't a serious human being.

My mistake. I stand by the rest of what I said. He's a high value pitcher if he can get ever get his walks under control. Which he still doesn't seem to have done.

    Bauer WAS an elite arm.

Regardless of your opinion of Bauer's character or history, he is no longer the same caliber of baseball player.

    Thank goodness

Can I interest you in contacting Ray Rice to try out for the Texans?

Goodness, we are still arguing about the possibility of signing Trevor Bauer?

I remember it taking a couple of seasons for Click to rebuild the Astros pitching staff. Only took a few more years for injuries and Brown to completely undo all that progress and then some. Thanks Crane.

Just remember Dana actually thought Brice Matthews was going to be a good baseball player.

If my math is correct Friday is the last day for a player to be called up and get a full season of service time.

I predict they bring up Arrighetti and start him Saturday.

Not that they are doing it to manipulate his service time, but because Imai is on 5 days rest Friday so the timing works.

Arrighetti will be on 6 days rest Saturday and the team has planned on using a 6 man rotation.

I think bringing him up to start one of the first 6 games in this 13 games in 13 days stretch was always the plan. Hunter's injury probably moved it up a couple of games but fortunately its still long enough for them to get the extra year of service time.

If they skip his turn in Sugar Land Thursday night, we will know.

Unless they bring him up to start Friday which would be malpractice

Saturday could be Lance on 5 days rest but I think having he and Arrighetti both on 6 days rest is better than he on 7 and Lance on 5.

I predict Mariners' series rotation: Imai, Arrighetti, McCullers, Roa

At least these guys were top rated prospects before injuries got them.

Whoever said those two were top prospects should be out of baseball like they are.

Went to the Rangers Mariners game today. Mackenzie Gore was sensational. He flat out has the stuff.

If you recall, many though the Rangers overpaid for him in the offseason when they sent 5 prospects to WAS, including the top rated Gavin Fien.. but that's just the going price for a young SP with control. It's clear the Astros are going to have to dangle Cam Smith or Pena if they want any chance at an above average SP... their hodge podge of prospects won't work.

I would prioritize Pena as he only has 2 years left before the Stros decide they can't afford him. Time is of the essence --- every passing week his trade value gets lower.

Ace offseason signing Imai went a whole third of an inning on 40 pitches.

But @Major says not to worry ... we've got 7 starting caliber pitchers. And if Imai is a disaster, he won't sign elsewhere!

This is the issue with casual fans, they cheer blindly for anyone in the home uniform.

Dana needs to get off his butt and start shopping Pena for a quality starter, or Crane needs to find someone who can.
