You said that Iran had no "justification, legal or otherwise" to close the strait.

I said they do - you say they don't have a justification ..... I assert the President of the United States claiming he is about to commit a 90 million person genocide IS "justification, legal OR otherwise"..... you can die on the hill that it isn't justified... and you are WRONG, but that is your opinion.

You don't think an active war zone is grounds to close waterways along your border? They could easily justify it for safety reasons. That isn't why they were doing it, but to say they don't have any justification is silly.

the delusional r****dation of the Iranian regime is like the leaders of Imperial Japan in WWII

they have zero leverage but think they can set terms and renege on promises and jerk us around (acting in bad faith toward nonbelievers is expected in Islam)

This is all a red herring, but anyway… yes, obviously a party will do whatever it can to survive and does not give two craps about the law.

But years ago, Iran and the US made legal arguments over this very waterway. BTW, it is not an international waterway, but that does not really matter here concerning international law. A primary reason the US knew that Iran would likely close it if attacked is because Iran had already made the legal argument that it could close it. The US, of course, said it would be illegal, even though they were not part of the waterway treaty.

Anyhow, the legal arguments were never settled. But given the arguments, the US already knew what Iran would do. Decades of war planning included this very possibility as a top concern… all down the drain because Trump thinks he knows best.

Imagine being such a simp that you will slobber at the cunny of the worst President in US history --- one that cannot even get his economic program enacted because his own handpicked Supreme Court told him he doesn't know what he is doing....... a man that somehow figured out a way to capitulate to a third world nation that was close to a revolution.

You keep slurping and keep that head down.

Yes - well one would think that the largest and most powerful military in world history would have no real issues defeating a third world nation that is lead by a religious backwards group of goat ****ers........

Yet here we are, with the President of the United States bending over, agreeing to terms that are worse than before the bombing and the strait closed down.

All of this begs the question as to exactly how terrible this administration is if they fail at this.

    What a child.

Keep slurping and keep that head down for the Iranian regime.

I have no problem whatever with the U.S. and Israel striking Iran.

It's an unambiguous violation of international law for Iran to shut down the Strait of Hormuz.

It's not within their remit to determine whether the Strait should remain open or closed for "Safety reasons."

    lol.

Ok, fine, Iran has no LEGAL justification for closing the Strait of Hormuz.

You know the Strait was closed way before that statement right? What a terrible argument. You are obviously a terrible lawyer.

I'm not an expert on international law, so I would have no idea about the legality, but just because something is illegal, doesn't mean it can't be justified.

Somebody is upset that his usual bluster and "say it and make it true" BS doesn't work on people who aren't MAGA. Completely incapable of operating on the international stage. And if they are better at PR than fighting, why are you the one begging for a cease fire?

By the way, inflation shot up in March.

NYT published a full report on the decision process. The report states that within Trump’s core administration, virtually no one other than Hegseth truly supports this war at heart. The risk of Iran blocking the Strait of Hormuz had been raised. But Trump made the final decision.

If you're saying Democrats need to get better at messaging, I agree.

"I don't think it was a good idea" after the war has gone badly. Maybe they should have done something about it before the war started. But of course, they didn't and now they are doing what good politicians do - it's wasn't me. It was the other guys.
