Maybe France will catch lightning in a bottle a second time and Trammell was hitting well in spring training. Maybe he’ll be a spark at the end of the lineup.
Ineffectiveness + bad luck + bad errors + injuries = the clusterf*** that is the Astros pitching staff at the moment.
Why did he take another 6-inning turn there? I thought by Sunday we were safe on the year of control … they should have given him 2-3 innings then had him up for the end of the Mariners series.
This baffles me too The only thing I can think of is that they did not want him to wait to pitch on more rest, throwing him off of a routine or have a shorter start while so early in the season and soon after a ramp up. If they are happy with, or simply must continue to start, Bolton then this makes perfect sense. Imai, McCullers, Bolton, and Burrows start in Seattle, all on 5 days rest. Imai would not be back on 5 days rest until the 3rd game of the Rockies series in Houston, 4/16. They need starting pitchers for the first 2 games, unless they move the starters up to 4 days of rest. This is traditionally fine, but a 13 games in 13 days stretch is not a good time to move pitchers up and pitch on less rest. Not to mention how much more vital it is to keep them healthy now. Gordon starts on 5 days rest in game 1 Tuesday Spencer starts on 5 days rest game 2 Wednesday. Everyone is stretched out to give 5+ innings and remain on a consistent 5 day off routine.
I think you’ve got it, although I kind of hope Weiss gets the start on Tuesday with Gordon or another pitcher brought up as piggyback/insurance.
I never thought our pitching could be this bad. Did Murphy’s departure totally F us over or is this just a talent issue. The Pirates are one of the leaders in ERA this season.
