Correct, ppl that left before Shah dislike the regime. They have a lot of pride, I know of some that came later in life and left because of the life out there.

They want the regime gone completely; some are confused with Trumps plans.

Entertaining to see a Zionist Democrat squirming to defend actually existing Israel. He needs to join the Republican Party.

Netaynhu announced that back in December when he was stroking Trump's ego at Mar a Lago. It was shortly after Trump received his fake award from FIFA.

“President Trump has broken so many conventions to the surprise of people, and then they figure out, oh, well, maybe you know, he was right after all,” said Netanyahu. “So we decided to break a convention to or create a new one, and that is to award the Israel Prize, which, in almost our 80 years, we’ve never awarded it to a non-Israeli, and we’re going to award it this year to President Trump.”

Netanyahu added that the award “reflects the overwhelming sentiment of Israelis across the spectrum.”

“They appreciate what you’ve done to help Israel and to help our common battle against the terrorists and those who would destroy our civilization,” continued Netanyahu.

He doesn't mind terrorizing and blowing away other civilizations though, and terrorizing, displacing, starving and killing thousands of women, children, and infants.

The divergence in how people perceive this is astonishing. I just had someone scream me down about this, saying Trump is sent by God to save the world and that Iran is going exactly how Trump wants it, etc. The Hormuz situation is perfect, liberals can't stand that Trump is partnering with Iran on this but it proves he's about peace.

We have zero common ground anymore as a people.

The insanity of this is that over the course of this war, in this thread and in public discourse, Trump supporters will say "Yes! Overthrowing the regime is amazing, kill them all bring back the shah!" to "Yeah Trump is a genius, we're working with the new regime!" It literally doesn't matter what Trump does, what happens in this war, who wins, who loses, who is in charge, etc. etc. it was all Trump's plan and it's perfect no matter what.

I know what you mean, but a correction anyway because ... we have PLENTY of common ground. We all want the same basic thing. ONE day, we will realize that. But today - we have zero common "facts" anymore as a people.

(But yes, a small group has abandoned all values)

Common "facts" is what I meant, so thank you for the correction. It's an important distinction. We have completely lost the ability as a nation to accept anything as real without it being seen through our political lenses.

Trump and Hegseth are the stupidest, most incompetent pair of “leaders” our military has ever had to suffer under and every American should be embarrassed by their disaster in Iran.

I mean we all share some blame, but it's very generous for you to use the collective we.

The country suffers primarily from having an entrenched cult of voters. There's no p***y-footing around that. Cult-like behavior leads to illogical switching to the Dear Leader's every utterance, no matter what happens abroad (no regime change, emboldened enemies) or domestically (higher costs on goods and fuel).

You mean you don't trust information and data that is inconvenient to your political bias.

CNN and Fox have lots of issues. Mainly the fact that they are billionaire owned, and those billionaires all have financial and political motives that do skew the opinions that those networks share through their production argument framing, and the hosts that they promote.

However the data that their analysts produce.... even at Fox... are often very respected, and their polling methodology is irrefutable.

    ....

I have worked with and known plenty of Iranians myself, and if there is one thing that I find consistent its that they are almost always skeptical of American military conquests in the middle east. THAT is a very common through line basically everyone I've ever met before that is Iranian, or has distant family in Iran seems to believe strongly in.

That being said, yes I do often hear that they are not down with the fundamentalists, and the military regime that has been running the country for the last 46 or so years. Most if not all that live here in the US would LOVE for them to be out of power, and would LOVE Iran to be almost part of the West. When my close friend has talked to me about where her family lives in Tehran, and what their life is like there it sounds a whole hell of alot like living in any major US city. I don't think people realize how modern Tehran is. They just associate it with the small tribal towns in Afghanistan or Iraq that they see in war movies like the Chris Kyle movie or the Benghazi movie with Jim from the Office.

Iranians/Persians especially here in the US have pretty complex views, but I cannot for the life of me understand anyone that is trying to make a case that somehow Iranians, or Iranian Americans are pleased at all at the thought of The Trump Regime carpet bombing Iran, taking out energy plants, and creating mass casualty war crimes that will destabilize the region, create a refugee crisis, and further entrench the fundamentalist regime for generations.

To me this sounds like you trying to make yourself feel righteous, and making up a fantasy that Iranians really want what you are giving them. Almost like SA'er claiming that the woman really wanted it. Kind of a gross worldview regardless if its that or your view of warfare.

Senator Wyden wrote a letter to Treasury Secretary Bessent. Here are the important parts:

Following recent bipartisan Committee staff meetings with the nominee for Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy, and current Senior Advisor to you since last September, I was alarmed to hear what appears to be a complete and total lack of preparation by Treasury in the lead-up to the war with Iran. During these meetings, Sriprakash Kothari, the nominee, repeatedly told my staff that not only did he not perform any work related to energy markets leading up to the war, but that he wasn’t aware of anyone at Treasury who did. The war with Iran began on February 28, 2026, following months of the United States carrying out its largest military buildup in the Middle East since the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Mr. Kothari’s statements suggest that leadership at the Treasury Department was conducting no work on important economic impacts of military intervention while news of potential conflict could be heard from Washington to Tehran.

During those meetings with Mr. Kothari, my staff asked what analysis or work related to energy markets the nominee performed preceding the commencement of hostilities, he replied that he had performed no such work “leading up to the conflict,” but “subsequent” to the conflict he did. When later asked to clarify this response, he reiterated that he had not performed any analysis or work related to energy markets, or any other economic facet, in the lead-up to military action in Iran. He further told staff that the work he performed subsequently occurred after learning about the February 2026 strikes in the news. Mr. Kothari was then asked whether he was aware of anyone at Treasury performing analysis or work related to energy markets in the lead-up to potential military action in Iran, he responded that he was not aware of anyone performing any such work.

When asked about his “subsequent” work, and who at Treasury tasked him with finally assessing the economic effects of the conflict, he responded that “no one” had requested this work, and he was performing it “for himself.” When asked if he was coordinating this effort with any other government agencies or departments, he responded “no.” When asked what his “subsequent” analysis entailed, he replied that he was analyzing “oil prices” and “GDP numbers” but could provide no further details. Additionally, Mr. Kothari said that his assessment of the economic outlook was that the adverse economic effects we have already seen stemming from the conflict were only “going to get worse the longer it lasts.”

Since the war with Iran began, we have witnessed the Administration fiercely deny reports that it was unprepared for Iran’s response to the attack and the economic hardship the American people are feeling today as a result. According to your own Senior Advisor, those reports likely gave too much credit to the planning that this Administration undertook before it plunged the United States into another reckless and endless war.

As such, I request that you answer the following questions no later than April 16, 2026.
    1. Describe in detail what actions the Treasury Department undertook to determine the economic consequences of a war with Iran prior to February 28, 2026.

    2. What specific analysis or work was performed by Treasury in the lead-up to the war related to the impact it would have on global energy markets?

    3. If no such work was performed, provide a detailed explanation as to why your department failed to undertake preparations or analysis of the economic effects a war with Iran may have caused.
Is it standard practice for high-ranking employees of the Treasury Department to undertake economic analysis or other Treasury related work for themselves as opposed to at the behest of or for the Department?
    1. If so, what is your department’s policy for handling any work product stemming from Mr. Kothari’s, or similar high level staff’s, independent effort?

    2. If not, please explain why your Senior Advisor is performing post hoc analysis of a conflict whose ramifications span the globe and have a direct and pervasive effect on the Department and the nation on his own initiative and without direction from yourself or any other Principal Officer of the United States.

I don't know why Wyden's so upset. You can't expect Treasury to do any wartime planning for the economy when the White House is not doing any wartime planning at all.

Wyden believing in governance is kind of heart-warming, quaint... like the smell of apple pie at grandma's house before your remember that grandma is long gone and you're just having a random memory.

Did you ask them how many ships passed through the strait yesterday? There's certain facts that even MAGA can't lie about? Did you ask them who's the new ayatollah or who has the enriched uranium? You have to talk about material facts on the ground instead of who's "winning."

I hope more people debate in good faith with these folks. I have changed quite a few people's mind about the war in real life after they discovered the truth about strait

I have concluded that the only way that this division will stop is if something horrendous happens that forces people to not have time to dwell on divisions. Something like World War II, the Civil War or possibly something like a massive Depression followed by World War II.

People in the USA especially, but in many parts of the West as well; are so bored and have so many diversions in life and feel unfulfilled but safe that there is no need to be unified. It is somewhat creepy because it reminds me of Freud and his discussions about how people did not know how to adapt to leisure, and that lead into a collapse of the world order and two World Wars in a 30 year span.

You and I are too old to serve - but we have family and friends that are not, and I worry about them.

We cannot even decide on whom the enemy is anymore.
