Iran would be foolish to remove any mines (or illusion of mines) in the strait until this thing is settled for good. Restricting traffic to mine-free routes or where Iran can have close control over every ship limits the amount of traffic significantly. If you demand that the pre-war number of 150-200 ships move through the Strait today, you're demanding Iran give up their greatest negotiating leverage. If they are going to give that up, it will take massive concessions or a successful invasion. A Catch 22 brought to you by D.J. Trump. As an aside, an average size oil tanker at $100 a barrel is carrying about $200 million worth of oil. A $2 million charge on that transport is much less than the tariffs Trump has imposed on international trade to the US.

It’s looking more and more like this is a troop buildup for a ground war. “Closing” NATO bases and stationing those troops in “supportive” countries. Guess which countries he called most supportive.
