I liked that. I want to see him elevate another 30 or 50 before I really start to feel better (not Hr, just airborne. It’s funny/ he’s got a pretty good eye around the plate honestly and I thought he got hosed over and over again last year, it’s not that he doesn’t see the strike zone well (think Yainer) it’s just breaking low and away looks ugly sometimes. like I said- I’m an idiot. Hopefully this is me worrying about nothing.
Astros have actually been pretty unlucky so far. Probably by 2-3 wins. Their xwOBA is only 30 points lower than their wOBA while their xFIP is a full run lower than their era. They only have 1 hitter (Diaz) who is sucking and only 1 SP who hasn’t been effective (Javier). They do have a few RP who’ve sucked and that’s the main thing that’s cost them wins.
With Imai and McCullers as pending free agents and Javier looking washed, Burrows has become an extremely important player for the Astros. Arrighetti is also important but if Burrows doesn’t pan out into a viable playoff starter, Houston could be in pretty dire straits for SP going forward.
Not sure their contract status, but the whole crew of guys that hurt themselves last year should be available for 2027 and beyond potentially.
Garcia's gone. Who are we talking about, Walter, Wesneski and Blanco? They've got one good MLB season as a starter between them.
None of those guys were very established. Walter and Wesneski weren’t established at all. Walter already had a serious injury history and at this point nothing should he expected from him. Wesneski still has options and will probably need to work his way back. Blanco is probably worth factoring in but he will be 33 next season. More likely to change the calculus would be if a prospect like Pecko, Ullola, Mayer, or Tredwell breaks out further. We should get to see Pecko and Ullola at some point this season.
Crane needs to pony up for Giolito. Giolito’s got a good relationship with the pitching coach Houston hired to replace Murphy. Espada needs to be ****ing slapped for letting Brown throw 102 pitches on opening day.
the fact that giolito is unsigned and was shut down in late 2025 with elbow issue tells me teams think he is a time bomb and waste of money. ATL shoulda signed him weeks ago if he were healthy
