One of the things I did really like this game was Alpi fouling out the unicorn. We need to make that more of a strategy, keep Alpi attacking in the post and putting the rim protector in foul trouble. The more time we can pull them off the court the easier our offense gets for everybody else. Loved seeing him cook and know he was cooking with the smiles as he was putting the pressure on, if we lean into that more then either they have to double team Alpi which creates open looks for others, or the primary rim protection gets pulled right out of the game and people like Amen can eat their fill in the paint...
I've been saying this since Silas years. His mix of craftiness and strength can make many bigs foul out, even the likes of Wemby. It is definitely underutilized.
The worst thing as well is that is literally basketball 101, and not just at the 5. If you get an important player to get a foul early, just keep attacking that same person and force them to defend or foul. You're right it hasn't been anywhere in our gameplan since Silas, and it's criminal. Sengun especially should be able to put so much pressure on the big man (and tbh I think Amen could likely do the same with most guards who struggle to keep up, but again we just don't do it.)
There is material for a 2 hour documentary on udoka, rockets and player development in that single exchange. No wonder players are not developing and losing their confidence, going into shooting slumps so often.
Looks like even Jabari was getting on his case about it. Sengun has been shooting 3s better of late, so I have to think it was the context in which he shot it more than simply shooting a 3 that was the issue.
Some people lip reading were saying Ime said "Get off the top" or something like that so I think he was supposed to be more aggressive getting into the paint. I still maintain it wasn't that bad of a shot and didn't deserve that level of reaction.
You guys sure Ime benched Alpi out of a missed 3 pt shot? If I remember correctly, Alpi played +8 minutes straight up until he came off. I was expecting him to take a breather anyways. About Ime's reaction... This dude is always the negative Nancy regardless of what his players do. Try to pay as little attention as you can for your own good.
The guy talks out of both sides of his mouth. One day it’s take the shot with confidence and the next it’s, you’re damn right it’s your fault, sit your ass down. I’m pissed with Alpi for saying it’s his fault to that loser.
Either he can let it fly regardless of results like Bari or he might as well just post u every single play. No wonder Ime doesn't give confidence or develop his guys well.
