The way he talks about energy is incredibly bizarre. Even oil and gas oligarchs don’t talk like that ranting about birds getting killed by wind mills etc. Many in the business are not nearly as adversary to each others businesses as you’d think.

Where you see some of the ignorance is at the oil fields with the workers in coveralls. Yes those guys are a bit more rough and hard core anti green energy. At the executive level or even the engineer level it’s not nearly as adversarial as you’d think. They are just concerned about layoffs most of the time if the price of oil drops too much, but that doesn’t mean they want the price of oil to be 200 dollars a barrel either.

 

Just as an fyi if prices go below 50 a barrel most folks in the industry prepare for layoffs. Especially at the engineer and below level.

That’s the biggest tell that Trump doesn’t know anything really about the industry. He’s done things before to try and drive the price below 2 dollars a gallon at the pump which would actually hurt oil and gas workers.

 

The sickest part is those still cheering on Trump and Netaynhu killing thousands of civilians and bombing the infrastructure they depend on, while coming dangerously close to causing a nuclear disaster in Iran. I hate to see how much worse this gets with Trump's threats of mass destruction. He is a man who has the same mindset of the terrorists they tell you to fear. The only difference is the size of the military and destruction they cause with those who don't care about human lives. Just remember who started this attack. It wasn't Iran.

The Pope's Easter message is such a striking contrast to Trump's Easter threat.

I think you have to differentiate between oil company owners and oil company workers (Trump obviously does).

In the past when the oil would go up, drilling expansion would accelerate and then when the price would come back down it would cause a lot of bankruptcies. That’s why they prefer the new soft cap of stable 70-90 prices.

This time however, I personally believe these profits are going to go towards expanding drilling and operations in Venezuela. You remember the oil executives having the lukewarm reception to being invited to Venezuela? This is the sweetener for them.

I don’t think it’s a good plan but I believe it’s the stupid plan he’s pursuing.

Firefighting and the military are not close to the same thing, but they do have some similarities. We teach our folks that if they are ever in a position where they must act heroically, that means a massive failure has taken place. We should not expect heroics. That means people have to make difficult choices and possible outcomes are weighted towards the unfortunate and undesired.

Also, different people have different ideas of what heroic means. Having spent some time with Special Ops people, their idea of heroic is way beyond what most of us would consider. I and the people I work with have been called heroes but it always brings a sting of embarrassment because we don't think we were acting as heroes--just doing the job we were trained for.

The eternal problem set for people who operate in chaotic, uncertain, and dangerous environments is how to accomplish objectives with the minimum amount of risk exposure. Of course, it helps to have solid, identifiable, and clearly stated objectives. In this tactical rescue, the objectives were quite clear. As to the war as a whole, not so much.

 

Having thought about that Trump post for a few hours, I must confess I am a bit shook when I am normally just removed from and resigned to his daily drama. His whole MO is to ramp things up to cover and distract from previous failings and uncomfortable realities. When you start a war, that's not a good quality for the Commander-in Chief with a warped ego to rely on.

I have a feeling this is not going to be a good week for the United State of America.
