even less leadership and guidance now if fred’s not on the team. Is Herro going to be the savvy vet leader that will help steer this team right? He also plays no defense and most of all not a point guard. Never been. Doesn’t solve our issues of not having a vet pg
Yes. Reed and Herro would make a nice ass backcourt, steph and klay like potential. Move Amen to the 3 or 4 in a Iggy role. We the need shooting and shot creation Herro provides.
Idk how much i want a backcourt where Reed is by far the better defensive player unless it’s for someone special and herro is sure as hell not that
I think we could figure it out between Herro, Amen, and Reed. Sign a vet off the bench. Ime gonna have Fred playing point 35+min a game. At least Herro will give Reed more opportunity to develop next year. Might not be a PG but I think a upgrade to Fred Resign Herro through his prime years and hopefully the Nets 27’ pick is the backcourt replacement after a couple years Let Reed try to win a sixth man award next year and show consistency. We can resign Herro as a SG if Reed is ready and move Amen back to a forward spot as KD is on his way out
That’s an all time non defensive backcourt if there was an award for it. I don’t understand how Herro would solve anything other than scoring? There’s more than just being able to dribble as a pg. you have to direct traffic and control tempo as well as consistently setting up other players. Herro can make some plays but again not a great facilitator or playmaker and he’s naturally not a point. Not even a combo. He’s as a point as JG with better shooting. And still doesn’t play defense
Herro is a completely asinine option, and that’s not even talking about having to pay him in the 35-40/year range
I can’t really argue with you but I think we’d be a better team vs now if we swapped these two for Herro. Probably would’ve won more games. I’m just a hater and don’t want Fred on this team next year. Amen / Herro would’ve definitely been better than Amen / Tari or Amen / Okogie from this year.
better offensively maybe. I wouldn’t mind him in the 2 guard spot. But he doesn’t give much else except scoring. That’s why Miami wanted to trade him few years back. Fred is a leader, teacher, and true point. Like Dillon he brought much more than just being a player. I think you would miss Fred when he’s gone. We already have felt the effect of not having him on the court. How much does herro cost anyway? Likely overpriced
I’m not sure we miss FVV at all on offense. Offense scored 113 last year 118 this year. Averages about the same assists as Amen. One of the worst efficiency n the league. Better defense if you consider Reed his replacement, but Amen and Josh are way better defenders. 3 pt% for this team is 7th in the league, was one of the worsts in the leagues. We will end up with about the same wins. I personally don’t miss dribble, dribble chunk it up offense by FVV. All Ime had to do was get away from handing the ball to Durant at the half court line to cure our TO issue. Turnovers per game since Ime stopped spamming Durant after the Minnesota game: 14,8,10, 8, 11. I don’t really want Herro as he is redundant to Reed, albeit more consistent. Giving Ime another year to overplay FVV is a mistake.
I don’t think we will miss FVV that much. I would pay Herro $30-35 on a 4 year deal through his prime. He is only 26. Hope Reed or Nets27’ pick would make him expendable sooner. Flip him in another S&T after next year. Idk I really don’t think $30-35 would be that bad for some consistent scoring / shooting at guard until we know Reed is a certified starter. If Fred & Jabari get $25 I wouldn’t knock him for demanding more than them
I don’t think you can put the blame on one player when comparing team performance from last year to this year. It’s an oversimplification to say the reason for the team’s 3 pt shooting was the pg or that he was the reason for the team’s scoring per game. There were multiple issues (and many that remain) with this team offensively and this has been discussed ad nauseum. We have different personnel this year. We also have also played different types of sets this year and our young players have grown another year. You also forgot Fred saved us in multiple games last year offensively and defensively. We relied on the 1-5 screen and roll last year or Sengun FT line ISO. And we had an inconsistent SG which was replaced by one of the top scorers in the league. Rockets increased their ISOs since Durant is a great ISO player which boosted this offense. The TO issue is inconclusive. They’ve played against teams with a combined.421 last 5 games. Also you’re blaming one player. The Rockets issues on TO’s are a collective including Amen, Sengun, Sheppard who make multiple careless TO’s consistently. You don’t know what a Fred Durant combo would look like. I mentioned before but I believe the Rockets vision was to use a combination of Sengun, Durant ISO mixed in with a lot of 1-5 screens with Durant roaming off ball the way he did in GS. Or Fred DHO’s attacking with Durant off ball. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see this.
Heat have some good stuff, Tyler Herro might be the last thing I’d be looking at from them. Sign and trades if next contracts are good: Norm Powell Andrew Wiggins Good cheap contract role players: Jaime Jacquez Davion Mitchell Pierre Larrson Kel’el Ware
I like Powell. He’s what we need at the 2 in terms of scoring/shooting. Defense not great but passable. Atrocious rebounder. Really like Mitchell too for a bench guy. I don’t think he’s starting material but could work if we have a scoring 2.
I don't think you can have Herro and Reed on the same team and expect to have decent perimeter defense. One of the two, maybe. Both, no.
