I'm Gen-X and was under the impression you were as well. IMO, 9/11 was our Pearl Harbor. Columbia was super sad, but in terms of personal impact, it didn't touch watching planes crash into buildings and ****ing skyscrapers collapse in real time...and the military action after.
I am and you're right. I guess I was just referring to the fact that we were basically kids when Challenger happened and for many of us, it was the first major tragic news story of our lives. Certainly doesn't compare to 9/11 though. I had to throw that in there. I was a typing prodigy.
Yes. It wrecked me a little bit. Still do. 5th grade back in the day, teacher brought in a TV that morning...so we got to watch it launch and explode live. Great fun.
What's crazy is Reeko really doesn't like me. I was thinking of thatboynick when I wrote the post but I was thinking Reeko 's moniker the entire time
It was better, we had stable leadership, we didn't have AI, and Algorithms ruining careers....and we weren't tethered to phones....or HEY LOOK AT ME influencers. DD
What's funny about that is acts have to tour more now with declining record sales because of free music on the Internet. I remember when Jay Z tried to make it you couldn't download his label's music for free. He eventually had to give up
It’s 2026. Pirating music is a niche hobby now. You have to be technically knowledgable to do it Most people stream music from the big platforms because it’s easy. You either pay for premium, meaning no ads, or pay via your attention to ads. Most musicians get something like .00375 cents per play on the big streaming platforms. So there’s a living to be made but you’re right, playing shows is how they make the bulk of their money. Merchandise is also a revenue source.
I was referring more to YouTube. I've gotten old, I wouldn't be interested in streaming because I'm out loop.
YouTube is streaming. Artists get paid per video watched. It’s not a ton. Still, top tier musicians don’t have to tour, it’s just very lucrative.
I remember waiting for the commercial break to end and I had two hands on the play and record button to make sure I got all of the song for my rad mix tapes also from my awesome boom box.
