Trading CJ gives you a chance to win a championship. You aren't going to win one with CJ at QB. Go with Mills for a yr and draft a QB in 2027 would be my plan. (Obviously it's not mine, thanks Hannah) That wouldn't be blowing things up, it would actually extend the window. Next year is a wasted year.
When it hurts to throw. Your body will subconsciously change arm angles to find the slot that hurts the least. CJ’s arm angle/power has changed. I’d bet a lot of money he is suffering from a rotator issue. Drew Brees dealt with this early.
If it’s zapped his arm strength, that takes away the one elite trait CJ had. Average athleticism with average arm strength means elite processing and accuracy is going to be needed. Like Brees. Does CJ have that level in him?
Fire Nick, hire Raining threes..... Good luck telling the team this is a wasted year because, you know, probably the best defense in the league will keep you in the pack so you will pick in the middle of the pack. Then wait for another "potential" rookie QB who will be even better this waste of a body, i.e. CJ. Don't forget how you feel about this subject when they finally get to the bowl and win. Of course you will not. You are a fan and you will celebrate too. I have been thru 5 Superbowl celebrations in the city where I came from. It's a what have you done for me lately league so even winning one will not be enough.
The only way trading CJ is a good idea is if you are getting a better QB in return or you have one lined up via a different trade. Even if the Texans were seriously interested in trading CJ it would have been hard to meet those conditions. Even the 1st pick in this draft would be iffy for a Super Bowl run this year.
We would have been in the Super Bowl with Sam Darnold. It would have been interesting which Darnold team would have won - Seattle or Houston.
Great question. But I think CJ NOT getting extended now speaks volumes. It's really "show me" year. The coach has taken, apparently, bad influence (i.e. QB coach) from the equation. He needs to fix "Other things". It's really telling what the coach said. But if he performs, and this team with smash mouth running and elite defense drags him and the team to win a SB. All is forgiven, you know he can't throw another 4 INT or fumble 5 types and the team still get to and win Super Bowl. So that would mean he is worthy to get franchise QB money. Low standard? Probably but who knows, What if the headcoach hit on the nose and CJ gets refocus and plays out, deals, dimes, stay out of int situation and let the run came and monster defense carry the team to victory. What if.......
Drafting a QB at #2 and bringing in a ROOKIE QB coach to mentor him has to be one of the all-time dumbest mistakes in Nick Caserio's career. Not only did Caserio and company FAIL to develop their prized pupil, they set him back. CJ was far better as a rookie than he was in year 3. Caserio and company's Himalayan failure in this regard cannot be overstated. Let's hope the new QB coach can fix Caserio s disaster. Otherwise, we need to cut CJ loose and bring in a veteran QB that needs no coaching or development. And if that happens, you watch, CJ will get picked up by an organization that knows how to develop QB's and he'll return to excellence.
The single thing I've noticed with his setup has been his feet. They are quieter now, but that leaves them out of the optimal throwing position more often. I don't know whether that was coached or not, but when I played tennis, the balls of your feet were the optimal position to react to the opponent's shot.
Or CJ didn't put in the work and instead was running around Africa with Parsons after his rookie season. BTW, Jerrod Johnson is a very smart guy who's been the QB coach all 3 yrs CJ's been with the Texans org. I'll take your bet that CJ will be better with a new org if he fails this yr. I guess avg would be an improvement over his last 2 yrs.
