I've always believed there is a price point for every player which is too much to pay. You can call it a point of diminishing returns if you want, but that includes the indisputably best player in the game. You can over pay them. Value is distributing the payroll in the way that leads you to the optimal outcome which is a championship. But even there, you can be right in the short term and not the long term.
