I was going to say I don't understand, but then I saw it's been 25 years since the first movie with Daniel Radcliffe came out and 15 years since the final one. I guess sometimes time gets away from you. I'm not interested in children's shows, so I won't watch. I think I watched two of the films at one time or another years ago and that was enough for me for a lifetime. However, I'm sure there's a whole generation of kids and teens for whom it will all be new and exciting and I'm sure they'll love the hell out of it.
Yes, there are some racist posts in this thread. That being said, I'd lie if I said Black Snape's rap didn't make me laugh. "Black Snape" just......not necessary. Don't make Snape black. Just call 900-Y-T-GUILT (In Living Color). Counselors are standing by. Snape couldn't have been black anyway. Lily would have never turned to James. As Lily Snape once said, "Once you go black, you never go back."

I guess I'm just one of those people who likes Harry Potter enough to give it a watch, but doesn't give enough of a **** to care whether Snape is black or not.
I'm OK with Black Snape. Alan Rickman's character is by far the most irreproducible role from the movies. He did such a masterful job that anyone trying to replicate the role in anywhere near the same way would be an obvious failure in comparison. Black Snape allows the actor freedom to make the role different and it certainly gives a sharper edge to Harry's dad and crew bullying young Snape.
It’s been a while since I consumed any Potter media, but I don’t remember Snape’s race — other than being a wizard and not a muggle — being important to the story. Am I missing something? A good rule to follow — don’t obsess over race in contexts where it doesn’t or shouldn’t matter.

The people complaining in this thread would've been furious at Paul Robeson in Othello. I'm sure they were just as upset by Denzel Washington in the recent Macbeth movie.
