I think, however, that a lot of fans would follow that with: "If the "young core" hasn't developed enough, the FO will decide to replace them with an "old core", i.e. trade for external veteran stars on the decline to be the new franchise core".

IMO, the NBA doesn't really work that way anymore, unless maaaybe you are in LA/NY/MIA.

Instead, if your young core isn't good enough, you replace them with a new updated young core (via trade, picks, whatever). You repeat until it they are good enough.

Yeah, I was optimistic for a while, but this is starting to feel like the Ty Lawson season, where Harden and Dwight openly hated each other.

The last Kyle Lowry season kind of felt like this too. Lowry and Dragic seemed in open competition with each other and everyone hated Kevin McHale. They went on a six game losing streak to end the season and just missed the playoffs. McHale was fired, Lowry traded, Dragic gone.

 

If the narrative is that KD and Alpi don’t get along, how in the world would we expect KD to get along with Giannis?

 

They are two different people in just about every way. They have different personalities cultures generation beliefs and lifestyles. The only thing in common is they both want the ball.

Sounds like someone fishing for a content. How close is Charlie V and KD? When have they ever appeared together? Didn't they have a tiff during a playoff game years ago? What's his credibility? What does he know other than what's on screen and obvious to the rest of us -- everyone is annoyed at everyone.

KD had four years of footage on Alpi and, IIRC, he had publicly commented positively on Alpi's game well before coming to Houston. KD came here because the team was built for him to plug and play. He wasn't supposed to have to lead in any way other than making his shots, especially in clutch/end-of-game situations (which he hasn't done all too great this season). KD is well known for not being a strong or vocal leader. He didn't have to be that in GSW and that's why it worked.

FVV was supposed to be that leader. Along with Adams. KD was supposed to mentor the shooters and wing players by example. It's such a damn shame that we never got a chance to see the full design of this team. We probably never will. FVV is on the wrong side of 30 with an ACL tear. And he wasn't all that great (good -- but not great) to begin with. He's a strong leader and good player. That's exactly what we need(ed).

When your team constantly does stupid things...it's hard not to get frustrated with each other. Everyone has their favorite target to blame. I blame the lack of FVV and/or Brooks. We lost our identity. We lost our soul.

Of course. Giannis is still one of the most dominant players in the league and top 5 in:
points in the paint, fastbreak points top 10 in Ast%.

His mid range is poor this year for some reason but shot 44% last year on more attempts than Sengun and around 35% since 19-20 on more attempts than Sengun.

A dominant player that can drive, post, lead a fast break and makes quick decisions passing. He is better than Sengun or any other Rocket not named Durant 100%
