No need to imagine what the Biden administration interfering in media would look like, there was a settlement two days ago of the lawsuit over the Biden administration pressuring social media companies to censor speech it considered misinformation (Missouri v. Biden). It isn't surprising to me that Medhi Hasan has a partisan take on government meddling in speech. It is bad when Trump does it, it was bad when Biden did it, it will be bad when the next president does it. I am opposed to the government meddling in freedom of speech and of the press, no matter who is occupying the oval office. In fact, all of my views on the role of government are independent of who is in power.

 

This is why everyone on the forums think you're a MAGA. The lawsuit you refer to explicitly shows that the Biden admin did not threaten the social media companies with punishment if they did not comply. If you read oral arguments at the SC the media companies never showed any sort of explicit consequences if they did not comply. The social media companies settled cuz they are now kissing trumps ass and want their mergers approved. They're corrupt and will do whatever for regulatory approval. Mark Zuckerberg is literally on Trumps bogus AI council which is creating regulatory rules for Ai. Mark claimed he got "threatening emails" but to this day has not produced a single email or a shred of evidence.

In comparison the Trump regime is threatening broadcasting licenses, not approving mergers depending on their political views, and illegally steering mergers to their buddies and not allowing mergers to happen in the open aka TikTok which was sold at a massive discount to a Trump donor. This is absolutely nothing in comparison to what happened under the Biden era.

I am referring to a number of states and private individuals that sued the Biden Administration. The settlement was with the government, not with social media companies (who were not parties to the lawsuit).

You will also notice that there are quotes from Biden administration officials saying, for example: "social media platforms should be held accountable", that the President supports "a robust anti-trust program," as you say, "in the open." To say that the Biden administration raising anti-trust programs is fine, but the Trump administration saying mergers may not be allowed is not is literally you just saying it is okay for one admin to do it but not the other. I think it is wrong when both admins do it (this is the part where you can tell I am not MAGA, because I am attacking the Trump admin for doing the same thing as the Biden admin). I know you loved Biden, but he wasn't some perfect God being. I think they all suck, everyone that votes for either of the major parties is supporting a system that hurts America, and everyone that thinks I support either of the major parties is an idiot.

I followed this case closely at the supreme court and social media companies did not provide a single Oz of evidence of a explicit threat by the Biden admin. There may have been some officials who may have said that but unlike the Trump regime the FTC/FCC acted independently and there's zero evidence that there was any collusion between the executive and FTC. Joe Bidens brother literally was a lobbyist for Amazon yet Lina khan sued to break up Amazon and went after them hard.

The difference in the Trump regime is the white house controls the FCC/FTC and they do whatever trump tells them. The WH is calling the ftc and telling them what mergers to approve and what to settle.

The bottom line is you have zero evidence of any explicit threats by regulators if the companies didn't listen. While some dumbass Biden officials may have spoken about censorship (im taking your word) they had zero power.
