Giannis and Amen would dominate the paint. How many people are they going to send in the paint to stop them? And as for a Stretch 5, I guess that's why we keep Jabari.
Just for the record - OKC isn't going to be able to keep that team together much longer. Starting next year Chet & Jalen Williams start new contracts both earning $41.25m and they'll be over the 2A by almost $30m. Hartenstein and Dort are on team options for $28.5m & $18.2m. The following year SGA goes from $40m to $60m on a 35% max extension. They are going to have to make some tough decisions. They aren't likely to remain as good as they have been the past two years - After next year they likely drop off some. San Antonio is different ... Wemby has a couple more years on the rookie deal but he'll qualify for a 30% max instead of the 25%. Who knows what the rest of that roster looks like by then because some of them are older and others are still on rookie deals. Outside of Wemby, Castle and Harper that team probably looks much different in a couple years.
Both OKC and SanAntonio still have lots of draft capital and in case of OKC the best GM in basketball. Let’s hope Stone doesn’t give our draft capital away for some fool’s gold vet.
Why you don’t think getting a stretch 5 and two solid frp’s and a Tari replacement is a good return for Sengun. Would you rather give Sengun and all draft picks for Giannis? If you are going to comment on the trade at least explain yourself. Otherwise, stfu.
Polymarket (biting of Kirk Goldsberry's quote) is incorrect here: "So there's 16 teams, they think they're in it,.." Rockets do not think they are in it, GM literally suggested in public that maybe 'it's not our year" . It's phrasing, but badly phrased. Rockets will give best effort, but the FO knows expectation of winning it all is unlikely. They paint the picture that the FO is delusional, which of all the problems we do have, that's not one of them.
Giannis is a snake - always has been. Because of his level of play, being the franchise player and in a small market - a lot of the negative traits he has have been hidden. Having said that, the overwhelming majority of true star players are because of their power and importance in the league. So that wouldn’t be enough to prevent me from exploring a trade. It’s been an open secret for a few years that he would like to play for the Knicks. I’m sure Orlando and possibly GS and LA will join Houston in being interested. Defensively he will fit anywhere and would look great with Houston, replacing the defensively deficient Sengun. Offensively he is very good, just not as a shooter. The Rockets would be forced to start Sheppard to stretch the floor and pursue a 5 that could shoot, Still - I think it’s as likely that the Rockets end up with Banchero as anyone else.
Any particular reason you think Banchero is the play? Also, would Alpy be the main piece in such a deal?
One more season of Wemby on rookie scale. Then the Spurs will have 75% of their cap tied to Wemby, Fox, and Vassell.
It will have to look pretty different, but they are positioned pretty well with Atlanta’s frp this year and next and all their own picks in 2030 they have Dallas or Minnesota swaps. They are pretty well positioned for a dynasty if Wemby stays healthy. OKC is in similar position. We really need to hit with the Net and Phoenix picks in 27 to stay up.
