I'm questioning an assumption you made that seems based on nothing but thin air. Does that bother you? If you have a legit reason for the assumption, please back it up with something. Tesla started gigacasting over 5 years ago. There should be plenty of evidence by now.

    Or not.

from my experience, an adjuster comes out to quote the repair. Being a Tesla, this is not cut and dry as only Tesla can do this.

so it seems Tesla is unwilling to fully quote the repair before starting. That is a problem but understandable. Insurance company says they will pay the cost but Tesla says it never turns out that way.

so youre stuck in the middle. You have a fair frustration with Tesla unable to quote before hand but should appreciate them being forward about the situation. And the insurance company is gonna be an insurance company.

so shouldnt your insurance company cover the gap?

i wouldnt completely fault Tesla. It seems this problem will become more common as cars get more complex and the insurance companies havent adjusted.

that said, as you are unwilling to deal with this risk, youre better off going back to driving a vehicle that shares components and construction with all the other vehicles in the world.

The evidence is in increased insurance rates for Tesla vehicles.

And I guess SuraGotMadHops experience dealing with a repair shop.

There's also articles about aluminum cast frames losing structural strength when damaged vs steel.

Or you can explain to me why insurance companies are more likely to declare total losses for Tesla vehicles for moderate damages.

    I'm all for being educated.

It's become apparent now that this issue is specific to Tesla Collision centers. An independent body shop that is Tesla certified does not have these problems, they work with the insurance company to get the car repaired within budget, like any regular repair shop. My mistake was thinking a Tesla owned body shop would be the best place to get repairs done.

The car is being moved to a different body shop and repairs, hopefully, will now get done without any bulls***

The lesson here is if you have a Tesla that needs body work do not ever take it to a Tesla Collision center. Find a body shop with good reviews that is Tesla certified. I do not know why Tesla Collision centers operate that way, it is very weird. I really don't think they want to actually repair cars.

The posters here talking about high insurance rates and gigacasing and what not I have no clue what they are talking about. Teslas, like any other car, are repairable if the damage is not too severe. I pay a normal insurance rate for my Tesla...insurance isn't even an issue for me here, another driver's insurance is paying the repair costs.

How prevalent are those outside of major cities? I'm wondering what the Horseshoe Bay types do with theirs? Have them towed 60 miles to Austin?

Where are the 5 closest non-Tesla repair facilities to you?

I don't have access to that information. I was asking an innocent question, about how people might get their stuff fixed.

You're not old until you have to sit in a chair outside and kind of roll over and slide/fall into the car to get into it.

Seriously though, I don't think Infiniti even makes cars anymore, do they? Everybody's buying and driving low-mpg tanks nowadays, and I need decent mileage. Acura's got similar "issues" where they're pausing production on vehicles in their lineup. As a result, I'm not sure what my next vehicle is going to be, and I was thinking about buying a new one to replace the ol' reliable '15 Acura TLX as it approaches 200k miles on it. But ... there's nothing out there but "crossovers" and SUVs unless I go to some manufacturer I wouldn't trust with reliability.
