Yeah, I won't miss that. It'll be very interesting to see how he does in Boston and if they have any patience for him taking 2 months to get going each year.
I absolutely LOVED the guy while he was here. Met him at spring training last year and he couldn't have been nicer. Talked to my kids (asked if they were twins), signed their baseballs, posed for a couple of pics....just an amazing guy. But I'm an Astros fan and he doesn't play for the Astros anymore, so.... whateves. Good luck I guess? Go Astros.
That's a good thing about our team. Altuve is awesome. Correa have my son one of his bats when he was here. They're fan friendly. You can still root for him when he's not playing us. Nothing wrong with that. Especially since he was so nice to your children..I root for Springer and Correa to do well.
Everything you say is true. But it's also better for future trade value if the players you trade away are productive.
Cubs are in the playoff mix and Bregman's on pace for a 3.3 WAR season (I guess thanks to his defense?). That puts him around $9MM/WAR which is about what is expected for free agents. I don't think they have any regrets as of now.
Seems like everywhere Bregman goes his teams wins. There is a value that players add outside of the field and in the clubhouse that go beyond the stats. Alex was a huge reason for the Astros success and I would not be surprised if he is having the same positive, winning influence on the Cubs even though his numbers are not the same
Both the Cubs and Red Sox went to the playoffs last year. Lets not pretend Bregman went to the Marlins or Angels and turned their franchise around. Bregman signed with teams that were expected to win and he wouldn't have done so otherwise. With that said, he is a gamer and provides much needed advice for the other players I'm sure, but he'll never be what he was in an Astro uniform.
Yeah, I think the Cubs success this season is less evidence of that than the Red Sox LACK of winning this season.
There are a lot of other factors that go into this but Red Sox did not make the playoffs in 2024, did in 2025 with Bregman, and likely won't this year. Astros made the playoffs in all of his full years and didn't last year and this year TBD but not looking great. Cubs obviously did last year without him and TBD this year. I don't think any team, thus far, has regretted having him on their team for whatever salary they were paying him.
It's also about the teams he left, not just who he joined. Both the teams he left are worse without him. He maybe didn't raise the ceiling, but he helps raise the floor. (If it's about batting numbers, he shoulda stayed in Houston or Boston to boost numbers. But 95% of players will go for their last big contract pay days)
Yeah, I don’t think the cubs have any regrets. Even in a “down” year he’s still a slightly above league average bat and likely will wind up closer to 4 WAR than 3. That doesn’t count any off the field impact.
Opened this thread and this comment was at the top. Anyone know what happened to this guy? Did he get banned or something?
I'm still trying to find out what happened to JigglyFly, if anyone knows that would be great. He stopped posting 3 years ago, pretty abruptly. I hope he's ok, or enjoying paradise.
