I respectfully disagree that Asik and T-Rob plus a pick isn't enough to get Aldridge. LMA is at a dead-end in Portland, and Portland is at a dead-end with LMA leading their team plus Lillard and filler. Asik is a potential All-Star. Now hear me out. If Roy Hibbert can make an All-Star squad with comparable numbers, why cant Asik. T-Rob can take LMA's spot, or come off the bench to spell JJ Hickson if he remains with the Blazers. A defensive center who is young and PF with athleticism and room to grow plus a pick should be enough to get us LMA. We throw in a future 1st, and the Blazers give us 2 2nd rounders this year to balance the deal. Salaries will work and give Blazers what they need while giving the Rockets a stretch 4 that will work perfectly with D12 and our shooters. I think it could work and Portland would give it consideration for the value they receive in a young and well-priced Asik.
Only problem with what you are saying is if Portland is gonna move LaMarcus then they are wanting to go to the lottery and rebuild young. Asik keeps them treading water with Lillard and Batum. That's about a 40 win team, keeps them in the high lottery and out of the playoffs. I don't think they go there. They'd probably trade #10 for Asik straight up to team up with LaMarcus and the rest however.
I think Garnett would love to play with 2 young All-Stars. I also think Boston would be crazy to not at least try to get something for Garnett, but lets face reality here. Garnett has one, maybe 2 years left if his old body after nearly 20 seasons remains lucky and holds up. Asik I believe holds equal value at this time to Garnett. We are trading a young, durable C for an over the hill lanky PF playing out of position who can provide Houston with the athleticism, rebounding and stretch shooting we desire from our starting 4. If Deandre Jordan straight up for Garnett is a consideration, Asik for Garnett is much more tempting I would have to think.
I wished we'd ban the Asik/KG trade proposals. KG is on his last legs, one season left. And Asik is approaching his peek, a top 10 center in the league. I'm sorry KG is not enough value for Asik. We'd be stupid to sell Asik off for that.
Well that team with LMA only won 33 games. I don't know how adding Asik and getting rid of LMA makes them better? If they do that trade straight up, I would think they want to tank for Wiggins
I guess I was putting more value on Asik and still giving TRob credit for being a Top 5 Pick last year with tons of potential in a good situation. I thought that might help them avoid the full-blown rebuild that Lillard would definitely not want to be a part of once his rookie deal is done. A lot of my opinion is based on hoping TRob still becomes the athletic, hustle player many thought he could be last year and the growing game of Asik and his terrific D numbers and output.
They tanked the last 3 months of the season. Before that they were over .500. Go back and look. They basically went the last 6 weeks almost winless.
The scenario is only for if we get Dwight and if we want to go for a 4 with range instead of clogging the middle with a twin towers system. It's not completely asinine if you think about the different ways a team can go. The twin towers model is a bit dated and giving way to the smaller/faster line ups. Anyways. I'd rather go for LMA or someone younger than Garnett but this is a random discussion thread so why not throw things out there and talk about them.
Their schedule in the first half of the season was really easy and during that span I remember them coming back from deficits in the 4th quarter and hitting ridiculous clutch shots that were honestly purely luck. Why would they tank when they were above .500 for awhile? It makes no sense considering this year's weak draft. They just weren't a very good basketball team-it was essentially 5 good players and 10 bad ones.
May have to get a third team involved. Maybe get Eric Gordon from Orleans so Portland can team him up with Lillard. Or they may just take Asik and Parsons because Batum can play the 2 (and so can Parsons). Throw in T-Rob and D-Mo and get LMA and Leonard in return.
Totally disagree. LMA would be a stud on the court with Harden (which he already is anyway). That's 50 points a game between those two. Both of those guys have to be doubled at all times. And if Lin is still on the team, both he and Harden would probably push double digit assist. They can pick&roll all over the court to they heart's content.
We could start Evan Fournier with Harden, The kid is lights out from 3 and has a high BB IQ plus he plays D. Wilson Chandler is a very soild player an upgrade from Delfino and Garcia and could play (1-4 KMH's small ball). Harden could cut back some of his minutes as well with the addtion. PLUS cuts 1M+ off the books and the cost of another player so .7 minimum so a savings of right at 2million. For better TEAM fits. with or without Howard.
The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that Portland will not trade LMA. They want a center to PAIR with LMA, not just to swap him for. Their entire team is built to compete NOW...not a few years in the future, so they won't be interested in prospects. I believe Love is our only shot at adding an all-star caliber PF, and right now we don't have the pieces to make a deal work. If they lose Pekovic, then we can talk. Asik + Parsons + whatever picks we can gather may get it done, but I'm curious if Morey would see that as a net positive.
Yeah I don't agree at all. LMA spaces the floor, gets rebounds, and plays decent D. I honestly do not think we'll get him... I don't think Portland is actively shopping him as some people might think but I can't say he wouldn't be a beast with us.
