UT's Sam Cozart is fun. 6-6" 230lb freshman, closer, deals nasty things to the plate 2IP, 0H, 0BB, 4K Game ****ing over. On to Omaha. eta:
Well, redshirt freshman, but still. He's a growing boy. Older brother, C out of NC State, was a 2nd round pick 2 years ago and is in AA with Cleveland.
Time for another mock, this time from Baseball America. Spoiler 17. A.J. Gracia, OF, Virginia 28. Cole Carlon, LHP, Arizona State
Gracia doesn’t really fit the profile Houston has been drawn to since Brown took over; he’s a bat-first prospect who lacks speed and is more of an on-base player than a power hitter. But he’d probably have one of the 2-3 best contact tools in the system. Carlson fits Houston’s profile as a guy who can get into the upper 90s with walk issues. But I can’t recall the last time Houston took a LHP in the top 2 rounds.
Ooof I guess my brain wiped Aiken from memory. Bogusevic is probably a good comp for Carlon. Carlon has played both ways. But Bogusevic was probably a better athlete than Carlon.
Saw ruger riojas pitch in that game last night . Good heat even after 100 pitches. Older prospect. Could be a fast mover . A quick look has him in the top 100 prospects .maybe the astros like him
Whatever they do - they really could use a good draft. This will be the highest they have picked in awhile, and there is okay depth in the draft IMO. Crane has wanted the focus on getting "star" level players in the draft, well it is really difficult to draft Correa, Bregman or Tucker when you don't draft in the top 10.... maybe the Astros should focus on guys that can actually play baseball.
This MOFO has been more than a few double wide's growing up. His mom probably had him wrestle the family goat to entertain the family when the power was shut off.
First time they’ve had a full set of draft picks (plus one as a player performance reward and another as free agent compensation) in some time, so I agree, he’s got to have at least three hits. This is the draft class that will carry the most weight when we evaluate Dana Brown’s body of work as GM. And yeah… by the time we get to pick #17, there really aren’t sure-fire stars left, so that’s Jim Crane probably high on hopium again. Since 2017, it seems to me that he’s become a real strong believer in lightning striking multiple times.
