Milton was represented by two lawyers with close connections to Donald Trump: Marc Mukasey and Brad Bondi, the brother of Pam Bondi (who became the U.S. Attorney General in the second Trump administration). Prior to the pardon, Milton and his wife donated over $3.2 million to Trump's 2024 presidential campaign and allied political groups, which included more than $1.8 million to a fund supporting Donald Trump's reelection. The pardon came two weeks after federal prosecutors urged District Court Judge Edgardo Ramos to order Milton to pay restitution of $680 million to Nikola shareholders, and another $15.2 million to Peter Hicks, a victim of his wire fraud. Because of the pardon, Ramos now cannot order restitution of any kind.
It's never about convicting those who commit fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, cyber crimes, Medicare fraud, or anything else with Trump. It's about loyalty, friendship, associates, big donors, and those willing to pay Trump, or do some tit for tat favors for a get out of jail free card.
