Handle doesn't seem good enough to be a full time point guard. Defense doesn't seem good enough to be a wing. To be fair this is more of a first impression thing and in the context of who to pick if we get #1.

While it's true the 2027 draft class right now looks very weak, I do want to state the obvious and say that there's still a whole season of college basketball left to play. If you look back at mocks for this draft class from summer 2025, Darius Acuff was considered a mid/late first rounder, Kingston Flemings and Keaton Wagler were not even on the radar, and Peterson, not Dybantsa, was the consensus top talent.

There has also been a wave of late first round/early second round guys who have lately withdrawn from the 2026 draft and presumably will enter their names in 2027 instead. None of these guys currently look to have exciting upside, so they might just improve the depth of the draft, but don't rule out the possibility that one of them breaks out in a big way.

So, it's not looking good right now, but you never know. Maybe there will be a huge breakout or two next season and it will be looking better a year from now. We'll just have to wait and see.

agreed u never know, but highly unlikely to be a great class relative to 2026. High probability there’s no frabchise guys. Just think we should be trying to get into this knowable great draft class.

I think it’s correct that while individual players can rise and fall, it seems like the consensus on overall draft classes has been pretty accurate even several years out.

Yeah, I would get into this draft class if we can--possibly even at the expense of both 2027 picks, depending on how high the pick coming back would be. But other teams know the same things we do about next year's draft class, so the offer may not actually be anything that excites us. A better route to try to get back into this draft class might be to trade one of our players. (Ideally KD, but not sure which teams would actually give up a pick for him.)

This is why it's probably not that easy to move up in a lottery, much less trade into one. It's kind of like "I know what this pick will be in a really good draft and maybe know which players will be there, but ok, fine, I'll trade you for your 2 picks I have no clue where they'll land, at least one of which is in a potentially weak draft".

Would you trade 1 or both 27 1sts for scoot Henderson?

I'd say one, but not both. His star has faded somewhat but he's clearly an NBA player and he's had his moments.

I live in Portland. Watched a lot of scoot. He’s one of the few completely risky young prospects I would still bet on.

Correct, 2026 is likely better than 2027. But the Rockets may have better odds of landing a higher pick in the 2027 or 2029 drafts than they would in 2026.

I’m not opposed to trading into the 2026 draft. My concern is that the type of assets it would take to move up may be more valuable than the realistic chance of landing a franchise guy in the range the Rockets could actually reach. If they can get something around pick 10 or later for a player who fits, without giving up future picks that still carry real lottery upside, then I’d be much more open to it.

I think the only sure things in this draft are the top 3 picks and I don’t think we have the assets to get that high unless we trade Amen. Sengun and picks or KD and picks won’t get us that high. The best we can do is probably mid teens unless the Bucks get desperate for KD in a quest to convince Giannis to stay. I wouldn’t trade more than one of our future draft picks to get to 10 or so in this draft.

Like every other draft in the history of forever. Reminder that at this point Bari was considered one of 3 “sure things” in his class. Does sure thing mean NBA caliber starter on a playoff team? Would trading a bunch of assets to end up with Bari in 4 years be worth it? Also worth noting…they’re all combine measurables and ~30 games of collegiate ball in a system your favorite team doesn’t run at this stage of the process. I’m not particularly high on 2026 as a draft class. There’s certainly no Wemby, Ant, or Flagg to be had. Will a Scottie Barnes surface? Time will tell. I wouldn’t cash in all our assets to take a swing at a prospect who’s going to rot under our current coaching staff.

Drafting is how you find a star. Admittedly, the chances are low, but they're there.

Unfortunately u can’t draft if u have no draft picks. Huge fail by the front office having no 1st round pick in this draft.
