Can’t let him walk for nothing, or that’s another huge fail on the front office. Given the poor season and poor attitude, I think we have to set a price that correlates to his productivity and availability. If Tari thinks he’s worth more he can sign an offer sheet with another team or take the qualifying offer. If we lose him to another team without compensation it’s akin to Morey losing Parsons for nothing all those years ago. It can’t happen. Which is why I’m always a proponent of extending or trading. You have all the info u need, you should be able to make a decision. But Stone decided to go the RFA route. So we’ll see what happens. It’s certainly possible some team with space offers him more than we are willing to. It rarely happens, but it could happen, especially because I dont see how the org can be as high on him as they were last season.
A role player that doesn't even play with hustle. Don't want him back, he better fix his head or he's going to be out of this league.
He needs to be like the 4th or 5th starter on a team with great players so he just accepts his role. His Mom has him thinking he is a star, and he is far from that. DD
Yeah but Stone did offer an extension and a reasonable one that factored in his injury history. Hopefully his RA offers are ones we can easily match. The caveat is that Tari has to come off the bench, and he doesn't seem to accept that role. If he remains disgruntled we trade him and at least get something in return.
Yeah. I don't really want him back, but don't want to lose him for nothing either. If you can sign him reasonably and trade him later that would be ideal. You can't match a bad offer though. He's unreliable. Not worth that with the injury risks.
I wonder how much Stone really offered Eason last offseason on an extension. It was reported that it was a 100 million dollar deal, but we never found out for how many years. Was it 3? 4? Maybe even 5? Tari did us a solid by rejecting it tho, but he also played himself because it was yet another injury riddled season filled with bonehead plays and subpar shooting Stone saved once again by a player not knowing their worth…1st Oladipo, now Eason
Doesn’t matter what he accepts. He’s a restricted FA and we can match any offer. We match the offer and then trade him 30 games into the season at the easiest. It’s on the coach and GM who ensure he gives us a professional effort for those 30 games.
I fell for his hot streak and thought if he just shot corner threes than his 3PT% would remain pretty high. I was wrong. Tari has a really low IQ and that hurts his play. We dodged a bullet when he passed on that contract. He's looking more like a $15 mill/year player, around what Bobby Portis makes. His 2pt% has nosedived this year, he doesn't get to the FT line, his defense has dropped, and he looked much better his second and third year than this one. If he doesn't want $15 mill then he's welcome to test the market. We can decide if we want to match. With FVV and Adams back next year I don't think there's room for Tari as a starter (and not sure he deserves to start). I don't want to pay over $15 mill to a bench player.
Just to inconsistent and injury prone to make him a good offer. If they were smart offer him to wizards or nets for their 2026 pick There are good point guards in this draft, they need to get into this draft asap! Reed going to be a future 6th man, he is not a starter. FVV is leaving please do this!
i think $15 mil is about right given what we’ve seen this season. But I bet he can sign an offer sheet for more than that. He has a lot of fans around the league and there will be a lot more teams with cap space this summer. This is why I’m not sure the front office played this well. I don’t have all the info on the negotiations, but if there was gonna be a big gap in salary, as well as attitude concerns, I would have traded him. Now we’ll find out if we played this right. I’m not super optimistic
Tari's problem is Tari. He broke on the scene as a hustle, make defensive impact, and scrapy offensive rebounder. While he's got some drive and finish capabilities, he's not as good as he thinks he is. His red hot 3-pt shooting to start the season, gave us false hope that he had made a leap in his contract year. He didn't. His defense has taken a nosedive and his stupid fouls on 3pt shots has become his trademark unfortunately (although Tate may have a claim on that IP). Finally, his body language and overall play have become gruesome to watch. I still believe Tari has potential and believe he can turn it around, but it has to be on a different team with a different coach. He needs someone to define his role, value him in that role and convince him if he flourishes in that role he'll become a successful NBA player. He also needs a strong veteran leader wherever he goes to fortify what the coach is demanding of him. Tari has played 82-22-57-60 games in his 4 seasons. His long-term health is a major factor as we assess his trade value. I've got no clear picture of what other teams would see as his value given his situation. However, I believe it's best for him and our team to find him a new place to play.
Varun Shankar: “An informed prediction on the average annual salary for forward Tari Eason’s next contract: $22 million.”
I think that’s a couple mil too much, but it might be what it takes to avoid him signing an offer sheet with another team for more and leaving us for nothing. I could live with it if the medical is okay and he gets his attitude right. Only the org knows those details. Tari really pissed me off this season.
I don't you could trade Tari for better than, at best, a late lottery pick. More likely a pick in the twenties.
Just flip him in a sign and trade .... get an asset for him and move on. He won't be worth the cap hit it would take to keep him.
What's the alternative? Sign him to an inflated contract? He's not worth the 20 million some are talking about. I wouldn't pay him 15, I think he's worth taxpayer MLE / BAE money. I'd rather lose him for nothing than overpay and screw up the cap going forward. I do think there's a team that will offer him the full NT-MLE and I'll gladly take those 2nd round picks in exchange.
